Just had to buy some eggs today so still doing well here.

I think i'm going to need to get a few bits before the end of next week though (when I planned to do a 'big' shop) - going to run out of cake cases and all the other little things that you think you've got until you go to use them

Back later to read all the posts from today and catch up :D

  • ok so i did meal plan last night based on what we already have. then i did shopping list, putting down only things i will need for a week.

so did shopping and it came to £31.86. i am so pleased. my shopping is never under £50. and thats only for myself, ds3.5 a cat and a dog.

Well done :T I'll add this to the existing Grocery Challenge, where people set their own grocery budgets and see how they stick to them.

As a newbie I just feel the need to share my great day yesterday as menu planned, shopped locally, with list in hand, compared prices and spent the pm baking!!!

After scouring the shelf labels I managed to make two decent sized leek/pot/bacon pies each serving approx 4 adults, and two batches of soup for about £4.30!!!!

    Leeks- 1.67 (0.960kg approx 4 I think)
bacon- 1.17 (Mr T's cooking bacon- good pack size)
    spuds - 0.49 (0.768kg)
    Puff pastry 0.97

    plus my storecupboard items:
knob of butter, veg stock, sprinkling of flour, and egg wash ??? maybe £4.50

following all the advice here in one hit I managed.....

A lovely hm made meal for my very grateful parents (plus one pie not parent! in freezer)
Soup for today's lunch at work (= NSD) (plus on in the freezer!!)

Normally it would have been the usual nothing in the freezer and £25 later at the local takeaway....so by doing this I SAVED MONEY!!!!

Sorry to ramble, but I was really chuffed with myself and it felt sooooo good dishing up a great meal that was well within my Grocery Challenge......thank you all for your ideas and inspiration I am a changed woman!!!:T

Steel - that mobile butcher seems a bit expensive (or am I out of touch LOL?)

What will you make with the meat you bought? I was wondering how I would make seven meals out of it but can't think, and I am trying to make stuff stretch these days.

It's only two adults, according to her sig. A big chicken breast easily feeds two, you could get two meals out of 8 sausages and probably 3 chops will split into two meals as well, if eked out.

Hey Dreaming - I get a kick out of it too but you know its a healthy addiction and a sensible interest. I used to go on a forum a lot that made you spend money (lots of money in my opinion) so I'm better off spending time here and getting tips from other frugalers and not worrying about dwindling finances.
