If you are really stuck for beans for a recipe like this at short notice, rinse the tomato sauce off a tin of cheap baked beans!
Canned Cannelini beans are 24p in Lidl just now if this is any help to anyone. They had other beans too which were around that price.
Re rinsing the tomato sauce off, could you even just leave it in too, might make a more tomatoey stew ? Just a thought!

  • Just done my batch of soup. Have portions frozen and two left from last week so that should keep me going mon-fri for lunches with two additional dinners.

Tomorrow night need to buy soya milk, cereal, a bit of fruit, maybe some chicken soup to mix in with some of the soup I made to bulk it out a bit more as it's a bit bland at the moment and some chicken to go with the chicken sauce thing I bought on the cheap a while ago and my two tins of chickpeas so hopefully I can make enough to make the 6? meals I'll need to cover me until the 31st. Rather pleased with myself if I manage!

Really excited for next month as it's a fresh start!!

Going to a friends tonight so that's a nice free dinner and breakfast ;)

    Congratulations JennyBee!!

My month runs to the 25th (pay day) and for some reason I'm well under but I think I've mislaid a couple of receipts

I've already started on what would be February's budget as I actually got paid on the 23rd- the 25th being the weekend if that makes sense.

Things are going to be changes within my grocery shopping as from next week as I'm putting my DD2 back on to packed lunches.
I didn't want to do it as she doesn't cope with change very well (leaving lunch table friends and moving to packed lunch room) but she's been telling me that the portion sizes are getting smaller which is making her constantly hungry = bad snacking and added expense!

Please put me down for another £250 for February but I hope to be under again.

Just redone my signiture with a week to go I've got a week to go have £32.57 left so may go over. Feeling down about it as I Honestly thought we'd be well under for January, with leftovers from Xmas etc, but instead, we seem to be shopping almost every day due to:

    a) Trying to Diet (not succeeding due to aforementioned leftovers which turned out to be mainly left sweets & alcohol)
    b) DD just become Veggie and wants to try every posh quorn product possbible
& c) we are constantly looking about for bargains

I'm determined to feel more positive about February though. Have decided to do a proper 'Menu Plan' for the first time, and to try and stop just 'popping in' to Supermarkets all the time. Fingers crossed for the rest of the week.
Been falling further in despite having an IQ, getting more urgent as I get older & the debt get bigger

    Hello All,

Hope you all had good Christmases and 2009 is a happy and healthy one!
Well took a break from the challenge for December and the start of January although have been trying to keep my grocery cooking and shopping OS. Lots of casseroles etc.
Anyway would love to rejoin for February.
My month starts today, as payday was this week and I would like to set a February target of £130 please Mrs Mc.
First grocery shop was today. Spent only £14. But will need to buy bread and milk mid-week. Past few weeks I have been going to local shops instead of Aldi/Lidl or Tesco. We are lucky to have two greengrocers and three butchers. Using these and a frozen food store for bread, milk and free range eggs (all cheaper than Aldi) I can get nearly everything I need for reasonable prices without the stress of supermarkets on a Saturday. Will need to go to Aldi next week for their tinned tomatoes though- I won't buy any other brand for price and quality.
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.
    MFW OPd 2014 £2000 2013 £9700 2012 £2848.39 2011 £2509.58 2010 £11000 2009 £112002008 £4939 :D
Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013 :)
