    Hi shelley

To bake blind... Line the tin and stab with a fork and place a sheet of greaseproof paper on top -then you pile on ceramic beads, rice..or I use old coins -they absorb the heat and help it cook ;)
Place in the oven and bake for about 15 mins... remove the paper/beans
and place back in the oven for a couple of mins to finish...then you can cool and fill

    :D

Hi don't worry if you don't have any beads and you don't want to use up your rice, you can use slices of bread just press down slightly as you put them onto your pastry (This is how I always do it and I've never had a problem) The basic idea is that it stops your pastry from puffing up and taking up the space you want to fill.

  • Just had my 2nd mrT delivery for Jan. Total came to £83.43; this included £18.34 on nappies and calpol, £12.28 on toiletries and £10.32 on household stuff so only £42.49 was on food :)

I got 4 tins chopped toms for £1.06 (cheaper than value ;) ) and 6 FR eggs for 68p using the internet exclusive. :) Also got 6 muller little stars for 79p, 500g clover lighter for 85p, 6 linda mccartney sausages for £1, and 8 wild alaskan salmon fillets for £5 :D

Under budget so far! £166.93 / £350. Off to update my siggy...

Please put me down for £200 - based on the amounts other posters have put down, as I have no real idea what my monthly spend is. This is for me, DD and the 2 furry children. My month runs from the 19th to the 18th, but I am starting today as I don't even know how much I've spent in only the last 11 days (this is how out-of-control I am!).

Oh, Mrs M, what have I done??!! My month doesn't run from 19th to 18th - nothing like it, in fact! It's 28th to 27th. We got paid early on 19th for Christmas and my old workplace payday was 19th - so I think my brain has slipped back (like, a YEAR!!) Still want my budget to be £200 but now it has to last me till 28th  Oh my!! Don't know if this makes any difference or if it's recorded anywhere - just wanted to let you know.

Anway, another NSD for me (that's 4 in a row) :j

Made sausage casserole last night with butchers choice sausages (Mr T 99p/8), the last of my whoopsie onions (bag for 45p) some mushrooms and a packet mix. Had it with mashed potatoes (Aldi 49p/2.5g) and some veg. Tonight used the leftovers - chopped the sausages and threw in a tin of Branston beans (Mr Ts £1/4 - Mr Ms got em for 75p I know, but too far for me), topped with leftover mash and grated cathedral city (Mr Ts £2/400g). Then we had cake (Mr Ts slab cake 2 for £2) and the other half of tin of value custard (25p). Think these last 2 days have been my cheapest meals so far!

There's leftovers again which I would take for lunch tomorrow but not sure about reheating sausage again - any ideas please?? :D

Back to work for me yesterday after having been off for a while, having lost my dad. I made sandwiches which was good for the pocket. Come last night I was so tired, I didn't bother and come this lunchtime I ended up getting packet of crisps and chocolate from the machine in work. Not very MSE and it cost £1 !!! Duh. Got annoyed with myself so came home and made my sandwiches for tomorrow as soon as I got in. Hurrah.

Have had 5 NSDs this month, of which I am proud. Seem to be spending money on milk, bread, eggs and veg. Aldi up here still the cheapest for 2pints of semi skimmed milk at 49p, so am able to get a few at a time. Nearly halfway through budget but cupboards and freezer still full. Will update signature to cover spends of last couple of days.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
