Now it doesnt take much for me to get confused! but its something Ive noticed when I have been grocery shopping both in store and on-line

I went to sainsburys today and wanted bananas. now being a mse convert, i wanted the best deal and my options were: -

    Sainsburys Bananas loose - £0.89/kg

    Sainsburys kids bananas x 8 - £1.29 per pack/16 pence each

    Fairtrade bananas x 6 - £1.29 per pack/22 pence each

now i went for the kids bananas since i got 8 but would the loose bananas have been a better buy?

I always get confused as to which is the best buy when supermarkets quote the price for one brand of (say cheese) per kg but then another brand is quoted per 100g.

my little brain just cant handle the maths

  • Evening everyone. I picked up some fruit and veg while I was at uni, potatos 2kg £1, aubergine £1, very large onion 20p, garlic 30p, 2 x grapes £2, kiwi x 5 £1. I was pleased that they had the aubergine, it's means I can my the moussaka on friday.

MrsMc- have you got the recipe for the lemon potatos you mentioned, I like the sound of them.

Back on MSE again! to take control of my finances and not let it control me. :T May grocery challenge £41.96/140

Spent another €6.99 on f & v to-day...felt a bit guilty about the €2.49 for 2 small bok choy but really fancied them so what the heck!

    Brings my total to €121.25

    Depends what they weighed.
There is a larger proportion of skin to banana on the smaller ones, so you are throwing a lot of weight away.

Just also wanted to update signature again, spent £52.87 today in mr T  £27 of this was on cat food/litter. This should last them well into next month.
Also managed to get a few things reduced as well as other things that will be put away for next month.
Am wondering whether it will be a better idea for us to go on a annual budget?
Have read the approved thread on here and am thinking of placing an order at some point soon.

    Signature updated

  • Well I am half way through the month and have only spent £164 of my £400 budget!!:j

Due to problems in the inamess household it now for 1 A and 3 children so am hoping to come in at £320 this month - I need to as nursery costs and the gas dd have rocketed this month - scarey!!!

I have also joined weightwatchers so need to buy more fruit and veg - every time try it the shopping bill goes through the roof but not this time!! I have taken lunch both days this week which has saved £3 a day so long may it continue. I have promised the kids a trip to pizza hut this week but have my 50% voucher so that shouldn't break the bank.

Currently buying in Mr T as its easy with 3 children and a fulltime job but may have to look at a monthly staples shop ( after meal plan of course) online from mr a and get F&V in Lidls - need to have a think.
  • MRSMCAWBER - Could you please transfer me to the annual grocery challenger list with a target of £6,000, thank you
This will allow me £500 per calendar month and enable me to bulk buy more easily. I will still count it monthly on my signature. I have included the following in my grocery total:Food, toiletries, petrol, household bitnbobs, booze, garden entertainment.
I have another budget for direct debits and another one again, for clothes, medical, presents, car tax,car insurance DIY house maintenance and household electrical items.
I'm pleased with today as myself and DD went for a meal and used a 50% off pizzahut voucher(its where she wanted to go)and then went into the theatre on opening night for bogof with the tickets we bought last year.
Only spent £17 on the meal and £2.20 parking . Our theatre tickets were £21.50 instead of £42 so our reward for last years moneysaving was very reasonable and we h ad a good time-far better than a couple of trips to the pub or the chippy!:money:
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults
