Hi all, didnt manage a nsd but didn't go too mad either. Did buy a couple of reduced bits in MrT didnt need to but just wanted something different, only realy went out to get bolts to fix together the free greenhouse we aquired. we were tempted with lunch out but went to Mr T's and have realy stretched them out so its not bad. We used the pasta maker we got for christmas today that went well, so that should help the budget. I have got the turkey I bought reduced at christmas out today to start defrosting dh hasnt worked since 22 dec due to the weather so budget tight, therefore going to decide on 1001 meals to make from a turkey! lol Good luck everyone keep going:D
  • Hi everyone just popping in to update. Spent £3.92 in tescos on coffee and bread. Really pleased the farmer nearby is selling his eggs again. Got 2 doz for £3.00. So enjoyed boiled eggs for breakfast at the weekend.
Have got a delivery coming on Wed from MrS about £108 but includes loads of offers. So hopefully should save the following month.
Keep going everyone. Nearly half way through the month!

Good evening everyone! Sorry I have not been keeping up with posts since being back at work. Have just updated my sig. DH emailed me at work to say he had hurt his back and we didn't have any Nurofen gel. He also mentioned a few other things we had run out of as well so on the way home I popped into the local chemist (Lloyds). They had lots of buy one get one free offers on stuff I use so I am afraid I stocked up and spent nearly £10. However, I have spent just over half my target for this month and had 7 NSDs. I am okay if I keep out of the shops!

I have just made a chicken and leek lasagne for Weds ( we are out to dinner tomorrow), which makes six meals out of one carcass and I still have the bones to do for stock. My 'big' shop in Sainsbury's last Thursday only came to £28 and that include a very nice bottle of wine, so I was very happy with that. Then I found that I had won the first prize in the village Christmas Quiz - two bottles of wine! So that's me happy till the end of the month!

Keep up the good work everyone.

Ok well I can report that I have gone over budget already - I just need to sit down and work out just how bad .....

I am trying to work out the best way on managing my food shopping. - Typically I used to share a home delivery shop with someone else - this worked well but I did find myself ordering stuff "just in case" because I would be planning so far in advance. this "just in case" food would then go to waste

    I cant decide whether to:
    (a) visit the supermarket daily (I have both a small tesco/sainsburys at my disposal) buying only what i need for that day/the following day
    (b) continue to have a mid week delivery with my friend
    (c) have a fortnightly delivery from asda? topping up what i need with my friend's order?

    (c) is the option I am most drawn to because I would have it delivered at the weekend meaning I would have all this lovely fresh fruit/veg/meat etc that I could batch cook with and make meals for the week/freeze. sometimes meat I have had delivered on wednesday needs eating within a couple of days and is no good for the planned meal on sunday meaning I have to plan something else or freeze the meat then defrost it!!

I would be interested to know how you go about your food shopping (do you home delivery/go to the supermarket etc) because despite having a fridge/freezer/cupboard full of food, Im still spending unnecessarily.
  • Hi Flat Eric!

I currently do a big shop just after payday - getting staples in, tins etc. I work weekdays so I go on Friday straight from work for in between shops - that way if I'm cooking I've got plenty of time to do it over the weekend.

I go to the supermarket rather than buy online cos I am newly into whoopsie shopping and as far as I know you don't get this online! Last Friday my in-between shop only cost me about £21 (a fraction of what it would've cost me previously) and included hovis granary loaf for 17p and a pack of 6 kingsmill buns for 19p. I look online first to see what's on offer too, so I can do my list, which I am trying really hard to stick to since I started GC.

Today is my 3rd NSD in a row and not planning anymore shopping til at least Friday.

    Hi all

Am going to spend this month planning and join next month, but can someone tell me what a 'whoopsie' is please  . The only time I have heard this term involved Frank Spencer and his cat and I'm sure that cannot be right :rotfl:

Hi Amanda65 -'a whoopsie' as I know it, is a reduced item, you know, sometimes with a yellow sticker on it. I think it's Asda that actually call their reduced items 'Whoopsies'. Hope I have given you correct info because I'm still learning.

  • Had a nsd today and yesterday so my remaining £11.60 stays in tact. Had roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots and cabbage yesterday, followed by hm apple crumble, using apples in the freezer from our own tree, and custard. Used ready made custard, because my last three attempts at making custard went terribly wrong, and everyone has made me promise not to make custard again - don't blame them really, it was horrible! Also made some banana muffins using three very ripe bananas, that in days gone by would have ended up in the bin, and also made some bread in the bm.
Today we had gammon steaks, mash, cauliflower, peas and cheese sauce, followed by the remains of the apple crumble. Have boiled up the chicken carcus and will use the stock in a chicken casserole planned for tomorrow, which I will cook in the sc whilst I am out at work. Will have a bit longer than usual in the morning to get this going as I have a physio appointment to assist with the pain I am still experiencing following a car accident back in October, and will go into work after that.
Not sure I am going to make it to the end of the month with only the £11 odd left to spend as we are going to need some fruit and veg and only have 1 egg left, but I don't think we will go over the budget too badly. Heres hoping anyway.
Edit - JUST REALISED I HAVE MADE IT TO A MONEYSAVING CONVERT - I HAVE A STAR
