Bio oil is fab, plus smells great too! But if you look at alternative stretch mark creams they contain more or less the same ingredients as the scar reduction creams really. So look for an oil that contains vitamin e and if possible aloe vera too. Boots expert stretch mark oil or little me organics(200pts on £10 baby spend) mummylicious stretch mark oil are good alternatives. All the other ingrdients in bio oil are great but it is the vit e which helps create new growth etc aswell as making the skin softer.

My mum got dermatix on prescription and it normally retails for just under £90 for the 60g size, that is amazing stuff, I nicked one of her tubes and an old scar of mine dissapeared in 6 months! Suppose you could see if your doc will prescribe? Depends on how nice they are! I hear of people having docs being stingy with prescriptions...mine even puts paracetamol on my prescriptions lol

ETA: I can't even have paracetamol...think he just adds it to everyones lol

I've just had a look at this Dermatix on e-bay and it seems fairly reasonable if it is that effective so might be worth a bid? Wonder if people are selling their prescriptions....that's surely highly illegal isn't it?

Do you think Bio Oil or any other variety would work on a 4 month old scar?? (I mean my c-section scar so it's quite big)
At what stage must I start using Bio-Oil on my scar?
Bio-Oil should be applied to the scar as soon as it has
matured i.e. the skin is fully healed. In the case of postoperative
scarring, it is recommended that you consult
your surgeon on the appropriate time to commence
application. Please note that Bio-Oil should not be applied
    to broken skin.
Will Bio-Oil also help old scars?
Although younger scars have a greater chance of
improvement in appearance within a shorter period of
time, the appearance of scars that are 20 years old or
more, may benefit significantly from regular use of Bio-
Oil. In a recent user-trial, 82% of the respondents reported
an improvement in the appearance of both old and new
    scars in only 4 weeks.
How often should I apply Bio-Oil, and how long will
    it take to work?
Regular massage of Bio-Oil into the affected area twice
daily for a minimum of 4-8 weeks is recommended before
an improvement can be noted. The response times will
however vary, depending on the condition for which
you are using it, the area on the body, age, natural skin
    colour, and skin type.

I used The Expert Scar serum on a Total Knee Replacement scar which is very long, and Its great. It has flattened it considerably, and made it much whiter. It was very red, long after it should have faded. I started using it about a year after surgery, but just wish it had been available earlier.

Just did a quick google in case i'd got the item wrong that was so expensive... first result I got for the 6og tube is £88.08 so it seems rather odd! They must be selling their prescription I guess, mum only knew it was expensive as her local independent chemist had to order it in at the time and the commented on the price of it

ETA: 60g are selling on BIN for £50 and bidding for £30 when you look at completed listings and they are from personal non trade sellers, so guess your right?

    Thanks for the replies.

Thing is I can't bare to touch it. It's completly numb all around the scar - I know this sounds daft but it feels very odd too - like it's not part of my body. Don't know if I can manage rubbing something into it.

Does that make sense? Lol probably not at this hour - but I can't sleep, been up now 21 hours and still bright as a daisy!!

There once was a woman, her name SandraScarlett,
Who shopped with a vengeance, and looked like a starlet.

Her coupon collection was a sight to behold,.
Her resolve was focussed, her Bootsing was bold

Be bewarned the SA that won't give her her rights,
She knows what she wants and she'll put up a fight.

For Scarlett made Bootsing and glitching a passion,
Just pennies kept her in style and in fashion.

Amassing her points now with each item sold,
Could spot offers from space, or so old stories told.

Using each glitch for spectacular ends,
And sharing her secrets with her grateful friends.

Her humour was legend, her wit was warmhearted,
Except when telling us all that her other half farted...

So with vouchers aplenty, and wisdom in pearls,
Look out Mr B, 'cause, well,
    Here come the girls! :D
