Well ive just realised its only for active applications that are accessing the net
Youll probably find theres only a few packets (Mine just sent 4 now), for auto update purposes
Personally Ive set it to NOT auto load and I only use it every few months as a general rule.:idea:0 -

whatever program you use...
is it better to defrag in safe mode?
Nope. In the ancient days of Windows 98/ME, safe mode was a useful way to defrag since the defragmenter was very sensitive to other disk activity. These days with XP or Vista, it's not necessary, especially when you use automatic defragmenters like Diskeeper 2008/2009 which defrags files 'on-the-fly' safely, including even system files such as the MFT.
My defrag program is Diskeeper 2009 professional (free trial version currently; a few more days left) and since my page file is static, i dont even have to run a boot-time defrag, let alone a safe mode defrag. Everything is automatic.
Infact, i don't recall when was the last time I booted into safe mode for anything with XP and Vista:D . Most of the modern applications are quite smart and reboots are far less frequent these days.0 -
I just looked at Defraggler; it certainly analyses faster than a couple of the others, and some interesting file detail is available. After over a year without defragmenting, apparently I have about 30,000 fragments, over 80% of which are System Restore points. As those won't be here more than a couple of weeks and may never be needed, I do wonder if it's worth bothering. And even the most recent files are fragmented - Defraggler.exe itself has 8 fragments; is this because of my PC or their install routine?0
