Today we took a Laptop back to toys r us, which was a christmas gift from my wife to me. When my wife purchased the laptop she asked a member of staff for help which was given to her. The staff member advised my wife on a suitable laptop. The laptop does not have a disc drive of any description and even though my wife stated that the laptop i wanted was to have one. The returns department refused to take the laptop back as the seal had been broken therefore voiding the returns policy. As the item has been mis-sold is there anything we can do? (Apart from never going to Toys R us again!

Can you prove it was missold?
I would imagine not, the question would also have to be why open a laptop which you knew you were needing to return?0 -
As the laptop was a gift it was wrapped. My wife told the member of staff what the computer was going to be used for and she clearly told him that a disc drive was needed. The box was opened and only when it was looked at out of the box could you see that there was no disc faciltity. We did not know there was a problem with it until it was opened.ACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........0

Well you have the sales of goods act on your side 'not fit for purpose' as she specifically asked for one with a disk drive. I think tbh its rare to get a laptop or PC with one now. Do you really need one? I haven't used them in years, normally a usb flash drive or cd/dvd media fits the gap0

I don't know whether you mean a floppy drive or a CD drive, but if you're really stuck, you can buy an external USB floppy drive for twenty quid and an external USB DVD writer for about fifty quid. That's if they do refuse to take it back.
If it's a floppy drive you're missing, then most laptops these days don't have them. If it's a DVD drive you're missing, I guess you've got a netbook, a small laptop. In which case, it's worth checking the side of the box to see whether it comes with Linux or Windows, as a lot of laptops come with Linux. Depends what you want.0 -
Yes you right the netbooks dont normally come with a disk drive (CD/DVD rom drive) they use flash memory0

Its a CD drive that i wanted with the laptop. The laptop will double as a DVD player when i'm away with my work as well. The manager we spoke to today was not helpful, but did give us the customer helpline number which is'nt open until Monday.ACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........0

No the requirement for the laptop is to double as a DVD player, there is no disc facility at all, floppy or cd. Sorry should have been clearer.ACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........0 -
