At least Next are busy

About 45 mins ago the wife was in a 19 minute queue to get onto their website. She's now gone out and I thought I'd try, I've a 5 minute wait. If the companies can afford to have these sales, surely they can afford to keep their prices lower anyway, which should increase in sales overall?
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

Because most of it is a con.

For example, i've had my eye on a chair in a local department store for a while now; and most of last year it was £299. However, during December, it mysteriously went up to £599. Guess how much it is now in their "Massive January Sale"?

Surely they are in the wrong. I would have it out with them. Can't be legal. If they carry on then they deserve to go bust.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

    It's legal.

As long as one store in the chain has sold it at least 28 days before for the higher price then they are not breaking the law.

The trick companies like that do is have one store that no-one goes to with the goods at full price. The real consumer trick is to find that particular store.

I'm personally wondering where the full price Sport's Direct store is as a style of bag I purchased 4 years ago was selling yesterday with a sticker on it of 70% off. The bag has been on sale for 5 years at the price I brought it so I am actually wondering where is their full price store.

Nearly all 'sales' are a con

They should be made to sell the items, at the previous prices, in the majority of their stores, for at least a month before.
eg; if they have 100 stores, it is freely available for sale in at least 51
No hiding it away at the back of stores, no claiming it is always out of stock etc

oh, & the next sale online is rubbish:
    bedding is just pillowcases!

Lots of department stores have their "special" sale towels, pillow cases and sheets which are ordered so you can put them out on display at Sale time. Normally they have something similar on sale but it's more expensive, with a different label/packaging and a slightly better quality.

Not only are the creative pricing strategies used during sales a con trick; I find the wording of posters quite amusing; in particular the use of words of different sizes to try and convey a completely different meaning.

The obvious one, mentioned many times on the various Woolies threads:

ALL STOCK UP TO 50% OFF

And currently running outside Next stores:

    ALL SALE STOCK REDUCED

Next and River Island are notorious for selling !!!! during their Xmas sales. It always consists of the !!!! that all the stores haven't been able to sell over the past year! For instance !!!!!! like XXXXXL T-Shirts, size 15 shoes and chav looking tops/t-shirts with designs of dragons or wild beasts on the front. Yuk...no thanks!

JJBs have got posters on their store window advertising "up to 95% off". The posters are hand done and it all looks rather desperate! Lots of people in there but not much going on at the tills...again the only stuff with 95% off is size XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL tracksuits and Size 18 shoes. Great!

In 1930s my father worked as an assistant in a grocery shop. Owner kept complaining that customers weren't buying a certain brand of tinned peas and he wanted to sell off his remaining stock.

Dad told owner to clear space in shop window, do a big display of tins with a prominent sign "FOR SHORT TIME ONLY - MASSIVE PRICE REDUCTION". And for good measure the price was INCREASED by a penny. Strangely enough they soon sold out !!!
