Economic Washing Machines-to buy and run

As above ladies, pretty sure mine is on it's last legs(can't complain, it's a candy and have had it nearly 9 yrs).

Family of 4, normally used every day so want a reliable model that doesn't cost to much to buy and run, I know this should be on another board but I think this is the board that can offer me the best advice.

Many thanks

Mine is a whirlpool, it cost £199 from tesco direct so you get points and can use points to buy!! It is an A+ energy rating as it does auto half load, and it is a 1400? spin speed so things come out pretty much dry so saves money/time on drying! At the time (6 months ago) it was the highest spin speed for the cheapest price. Hope you find something good in the sales!!

I've got a Bosch WFD 2060 Electronic. Although I am fairly sure you can't buy the same model anymore (I have had it eight years or so) I clearly remember it was the cheapest in the shop and it has never let me down. I would therefore highly recommend a Bosch.

Thank you all so much, I have been messing about on the web, looking at all the offers and all that. I have been looking for that thread 'what retailer don't want us to know' or similar, I think I heard that there are just one or two makers of washing machines now, and they just have different fronts on them.....apart from Miele of course which make tea and sweep the floor apparently

the latest which? magazine had a list of reliability by manufacturer... i remember that bosch and zanussi were above average, whirlpool was average (i bought one in the sale yesterday by them!) but hotpoint and indesit were below average. i'll try and find the magazine and get the rest of the info!

You can subscribe to Which? for 30 days online for £1. You need to give your card details, but it's easy to cancel your subs before getting charged for a monthly subscription.

We signed up so we could look at the reviews for tumble driers. Decided to go for a Miele which came up best in their review. Now trying to find it for the best price and hoping they'll come down in the Jan sales.

    Look for the following.

    Triple A rating.
    Automatic half load.
    Variable spin.

If you get those then look for a good price and you've got it covered.
  • always go for a reliable brand. slinky's advice is good- look at the which ratings for manufacturer reliability. u dont wnat to be buying a new one every few years
  • ok - so the top three for washing machines are miele, bosch and zanussi. hotpoint were the lowest. HTH

  • I've been to washing machine hell and back before now, two Zanussi's, a Beko and now a Bosch. The Zanussi's were put to the test with the kids as babies, but everything went from bearings to pumps. The after care warranties although good service always had to wait weeks for parts.
The Beko was just a non starter, lasted a little over two years before it died, never felt it washed anything very well.

I bought a mid range Bosch for £299 with a two year warranty - local dealer - after reading this site :
