I asked my son to help me cut the grass on Friday evening, warned him about minding the cable etc but within 30 seconds he'd cut through it!! If you want something doing properly...do it yourself!

My son's done that as well ... made me glad I still insist he does it while there is a grown up in the house! which does limit the times it gets done, as he never wants it done when it suits me!

  • Well, this thread has given me plenty of food for thought! I'd been thinking of reviewing my daughter's pocket money, to increase it a bit but to add some chores she has to do round the flat as she is getting older, but I wasn't going very far forward! You'll all given me lots of ideas so thank you!

She's is planning to get a paper round as soon as she is 13, so I must already be something right!

  • Both my sons aged 13 & 14 have a paper round which they get £7.50 a wk for (They split a large round). I pay £10 a mt top up for their mobiles, and I put £20 a month into their savings account. I do expect them to do the odd job around the house. Funny how they don't spend the money which they have earned as quick as money given to them though!

    Hi,
Just wondering what would be a reasonable amount of pocket money to spend per week/month on things like hobbies, going out, clothes, alcohol, sweets, cigarettes etc. We've just given ourselves £20 per week.
Is that too much, too little, about right??
Since 1 January we have given ourselves a budget of £40 per week for food shopping (2 adults and a 2 year old), but have just cut it down to £30 per week. That does not include crisps, alcohol, etc as that comes out of our pocket money.
How much do you allow yourself per week?

I do have a budget for grocery shopping, but everything else depends on how much I want to save that month or any large expenses that are coming up. I then allow myself to spend up to a certain level for that period of time making sure that my bank account doesn't go below the level at which I want it.

I think everyone is different. I give myself £50 per week for spending on me - i don't buy expensive clothes or meals out etc...but i still manage to use it up far too quickly!

Other than that, after biils, monthly i pay £330 off debts, save £70 for car/holidays/emergancies etc..... and spend about £50 on food per month. That leaves about £50 for petrol and and i don't know what!
