Im not the inspiration!! you lot are,I have been floundering around for years just getting worse but "no more " I am just amazed that this is all it has taken to actually get a handle on things.
The strange thing is I feel as if all the debts have already been cleared??? but I am in exactly the same financial state as I was on monday or was it sunday??.
But I feel in control now and know if I follow everyones advice there will be an end to it one day.

The option of downsizing we already looked into but its only worth £98,000 ( ex council)and it would cost more than this to purchase even the smallest house that didn't need loads of money spent on it before it is livable.

  • That is okay,

Well down on trying to think of everything

It is like Tescos - Every lttle helps
  • I'm not sure how you'd feel about this, but if you have spare rooms, how about taking in a lodger?

Funky You have distracted me from my mission as I just had to follow that link in your post.!!!!!! I have read the full thread as it is so inspiring.

A lot of it went over my head as regards the different mortgages, I didn't realise there were so many different ones and I will be looking into taking some of your advice one day when I am in a position to think about saving again.
Congratulations and well done :T :T

I know exactly what you mean. Taking back that control is so powerful. Your debts can't bite you on the bum because you know all about them and you're in control of them not the other way around.

I have to admit to being extremely impressed at what you've achieved so far. It takes great courage to admit where you've gone wrong and especially to admit to other people. And even more courage to stop moaning and start doing something about it!

I came across this quote the other day, and liked it so much I think I might add it to my signature: "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got." A real motivator to change.:)

Hi ,there are only two proper sized rooms and one little little box room, the girls shared and my son had the little "broom cupboard" as he called it.
Broom cupboard has been taken over by my daughters stuff at the moment as she is between properties and I intend to use it to keep all my stuff which I will be flogging on ebay shortly to raise some more money.
I cant even get a small wardrobe in there ,just single bed and small chest of drawers.
    Thanks for the suggestion though.
    Thanks everyone

That sounds about right doesn't it!!

I am a bit chuffed to be honest I have sat here for 2 days with the phone, the pc, a pen and and a huge amount of papers and a calculator, the papers are full of figures and doodles all over them.

I told the insurance rep on the phone "its just as well you are sending out a revised policy because I have written all over this one" I tend to doodle when I am concentrating.

Anyway it will be all worth it in the end,I am so glad I have had the time to devote to this ( had a few days hols owing so asked could I have them now).

I just felt I had to tackle everything in a short span of time because once back at work I wont have the mental resolve to spend my day off (cleaning day)constantly on the phone and waiting for people to get back to me etc.

  • Yup I have been living on the contents of my freezer + cupboards for the last few days and for a few more to come me thinks.
I have been doing a lot of things os for a long time ie cleaning with vinegar etc I buy a large plastic container every few months even though the men in the family say it stinks I am getting quite used to it Lol.
I use leftovers in soups etc so that wont be such a big deal as we have learned to tighten our belts big time over the years.
Am thinking of a slow cooker and a bread machine though would be very handy as I do 9 hr shifts, constantly on my feet and it sounds lovely having dinner ready when I get home.
I think they will be a big help, have them on my watch list on ebay as we speak.
