  • I bet it was enormous relief to finally get things out into the open with your children and explain things are going to have to change. I've found this site a great help in the fact I feel empowered now regarding my financial circumstances - I weeded out loads of things that were either cancelled or changed to cheaper policies. Fingers crossed that your Hubby finds a job really soon.
  • Snowball calculator - I copy and paste it, then add it in to word and save from there.

It is a bit of a pain having to redo it every now and then, but i have great fun doing it as i can actually see a difference.

Ha!! this is exactly the phrase I used yesterday when my friend complained because I have been missing my gym sessions I feel this needs my full attention for now otherwise I will get sidetracked.

Back to the gym on monday and my smoking quit day as well so wish me luck.

Congratulations to you. It does make things so much easier when things are out in the open and you start on a plan of action.

  • One question is

    Could you downside the house

Now that the kids are moving out, could you downsize, perhaps even becoming mortgage free?

This may mean moving area and I appreciate that your current employer is very understanding

I absolutely wish you luck, you can do it! Both me and my hubby used to smoke and have been given up for 5 years now. In my experience it's nowhere near as hard as you think it will be once you've made the decision. Hubby was a heavier and more regular smoker than me and he used nicotine patches for 2 weeks and then came of them, he wasn't moody or anything.

You will feel so much better when you're not a smoker, you don't have to worry you're cutting your life short anymore and it won't be long before you actually can't stand the smell of smoke around you!

    Wow!

I just read your thread for the first time today.

However you got into the current situation, you will NEVER be judged on MSE!!!!
We all do everything we can to support, advise you and give you the confidence to tackle what can sometimes be a very frightening experience.

I agree totally with in*the*red, you started the thread sounding totally lost within your financial situation and unable to see a way out.

But just keep reminding yourself of the action that you have already taken!
I hope your husband and family are very proud of the way you have faced this and done evrything you can to change things.
Keep a diary of the changes you make so that if it seems to get you down, just look back and remind yourself what a difference you have made already.

Try mealplanning as it has really helped us to get our grocery bills down.
Please keep posting, you are always welcome on MSE!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Well done and you sound much more positive already!

Regarding the internet connection "gap" - grab yourself a wanadoo CD from one of the high street shops, they give you a month's free dial-up. Just remember to cancel it before the month is out.
  • worndownmum you are an absolute INSPIRATION.

    Lots of hugsXX
