Don't fall for "sale" prices!

  • A great thread! I'm sick of listening to the constant propagander from the establishment, which it has to be said now includes the majority of daily papers. Also worrying is the lack of choice in this country. When you source back to the producers of the so called different brands, the choice is negligable.
  • Well, this looney got a Gucci mens bag for £300 (reduced from £600)

  • Two weeks ago i went into a JJB that had massive signs in the window claiming the sale had up to 95% off. I asked a sales person what items had this reduction and they stated there were not any, before quickly correcting their answer to "they are all sold now"; nothing but a bunch of false advertising scammers:mad:
  • Oh thank goodness...people need to be so much more aware, I first noticed this "sale scam" in Superdrug a couple of years ago, when they had one of their 80-90% off eveything so I rushed in only to discover alot of the prices had gone up and an item I used to buy regularly at 3.99 was now being sold at 5.99 but it was on sale for 4.99...

I was not impressed and decided to have words with the manager that they were in effect cheating people. He swore blind and blue that they had always sold it at 5.99, luckily I had my old receipt with which showed the true price and the guy turned to me and said oh you must have bought it on offer!!!!! I was so stunned, I dropped the stuff and walked out....luckily found an independent pharmarcy that sell it at the old price......

So not everthing that has a sale price is on sale.....and right now having looked at a number of shops online, I can definitley say that retailers are playing the joke card and yes peole are falling for it thanks to the media....

I have been a "SALE" sceptic for many years and not being a religious person have no time for Christmas .

Total spend this year was £140 in cash gifts for my grown up children and I will not be attending any of these so called sales.

  • glad it is just not me who has suspicions abouts sales. slightly off topic . I notice tesco have also taken the opportunity to raise prices on goods which weren't on 'sale' Brought 5 replacements tips for oral b tootbrush in november . I am pretty sure it was £12-13 as was the brush. Brought the brush and tips for my brother last week £15 each. I thought electronic goods were supoosed to get cheaper?Tesco must love me at the moment though since i am getting the 10% voucher with every receipt . Unfortunately the bulk of my shopping is now done in Lidl ( so much cheaper) so I never use my 10% off . What a pity.

You only have to walk in to NEXT at 5am to see all the wonderful SALE items, that were never in the store last month....

SALE OF GOODS ACT is a joke in that price only has to have been higher for 28 days somewhere in the UK in the last 6 months, so one store in outer Hebrides has this junk and suddenly come sale time the whole country has it in the massive Sale!!

Rule 1 Did you need it before the SALE?
Rule 2 Why do you want it now?
Rule 3 Go home and sleep on it.
Rule 4 Check the internet to see if it is cheaper elsewhere.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
  • Never thought that the shops would do this, until I checked on a night wear I bought for my wife before christmas for £23 with 30% discount. Now it's on sale for £25. Looks like M&S is selling the same night wear for more than prechrsitmas price and they call it a sale!

Item mentioned , the url link here...

Usually, I would be out there buying some clothes, I think...I will give it a miss. I might eventually venture out in 2 weeks time...to the shops, more likely to get a bargain then.

    Thanks for alerting us.
  • I'm so glad to see other people who aren't fooled by the hype anymore :o

My tumble dryer packed in just before Xmas so I thought I'd wait to see what was in the sales. Absolutely nothing! I did notice that Argos were selling a White Knight tumble dryer for about £75 around the end of November, which went back up to full price and lo and behold it's now £80 in the "sale".

Just think about the simple concept of supply and demand. Straight after Xmas and again after New Year is when the stores are packed, so there aren't going to be many bargains. If a store has a good chance of selling something for £200, because there are more customers coming through the doors, then it's hardly likely to be selling it off for £100
