Don't fall for "sale" prices!

So you must all have been watching the constant adverts on TV about retailers amazing sales,
The reality?
B&Q Summer/Autumn

Latest prices

B&Q DOUBLE their prices just before the sales and then advertise an AMAZING 50% off! Lucky you!
The media (even BBC news) is now being used a propaganda machine to perpetuate these false sales by encouraging you to go and spend money you don't have (encouraging even more personal debt), because you will miss out on bargains like the above if you don't!
I think its a part of this websites responsibility firstly to reveal these scammers to the masses, and encourage people to save their money, not spend, considering we are about to enter the worst economic crisis in 80 years.

Funny you should say this, i was looking at the M&S `sale` and spotted a Suduku book for £3 in the sale - i paid that for it when it was`nt in the sale! you have to be as savvy as them nowadays.0

I had the same thing when trying to buy a laptop from dell. Just before the christmas period i reconfigured a laptop that i was looking at a while back and it cost almost £200 more. They will probably know that off now and call it a sale.0

i just try to remember that if i didn't want it a week ago, i shouldn't want it now, just because it has a sale sticker on. i keep repeating this mantra to myself when i'm at the shops and about to pay £25 for a room fragrancer because it has £5 off, when i could buy a can of air freshener for 99p lol.0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0

I normally get annoyed with posting in the wrong place but this isnt the case here, its a money saving thread/board and this post could help lots of people to save lots of money.
You really wouldent want this reminder to be on the grabbit board, much better to stick to the rule book and move it away from the people who are most likely benefit from it.
Another nail in the coffin for common sense.0 -

It's not a grabbit deal, so grabbit isn't the right forum for it. Everybody has access to both boards.0 -

Perhaps it's time to start sending them examples of sales not being sales in order for their journalists/researchers to look into? Superdrug being one of the leading culprits.
I tend to check before the sales how much the item I want costs.
Then check to see if I can find it cheaper on the web and use that price as the guide to see if I am getting a bargain or not.catch220
