Nationwide - It's a Mystery To Me - Help

I've currently got a flexaccount, CASH CARD.
All i want to do is change it to a debit card so that i can avoid drawing out £10's here and there because i always end up spending my loose change on crap basically.
So i call up nationwide, I haven't had the time to get to the bank, i havent actually been to my bank in about a year. They offer me a way around trying to get a debit card by re-applying then offering a complete transfer.
Sounds fine to me. So i go through the application process. Give them all my details, secure address, been employed at the same job for a 1 year 10 months, salary of 17k, and i also have 3 credit cards.
I also have a overdraft limit of £750 on my current cash card.
Well you'd think I'd have no problem.
WRONG
I get refused for a debit card. Even my sister has a debit card and she's 17. Im 20 years old, and i feel rather insulted that im getting refused for a poxy card that i just want to hand to a cashier instead of an ATM.
Any advice?
EDIT: I spoke to nationwide again. I explained my situation to the lady at customer services. Basically everything I've said above. She was just as stumped as i as to why i was refused. She directed me to experian.
So i apply for the 30 day free trial with experian online.
I've checked out my credit rating. No missed payments, apart from 3g mobile which im still in the process of getting cleared off BUT that contract ended back in march last year and had been settled according to my credit rating.
I've had 19 searches done on me within the last year, 8 of which will come off at the 12 month period which is around the 10th of next month.
I rang up experian, still stumped as to why i got refused. Explained my situation to the lady on the phone about nationwide. She looked over my account, looked at information. And even she was stumped as to why i am getting refused.
So Im STILL no where near knowing why i got refused. *cries*
Also, if anyone could tell me how to cancel my experian free trial I'd appreciate that also.
Thanks xD

me thinks the answer is above....
you have 3 credit cards.......
have you used up all of the credit limits.... missed payments...... etc
I would suggest you get a copy of your credit file........smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I've edited the above in regards to this but I'll answer the question.
None of my three credit cards have exceeded there limits.
My overdraft with nationwide is always paid off each month.
I don't miss payments at all.
And I've got my credit file in front of me. In which case I'm quite proud of because everythings greenApart from 3g which I've mentioned, but as i said that was in march of last year, and I disputed it months ago because this what a fault in 3g's customer service not knowing a word of english *sigh*

@Haushinka
I hope you get your debit card. The only trouble with spending on a debit card is that they ask you if you require any cash back when buying with it. Also there is no section 75 consumer credit protection when paying with cash or a debit card when compared to a credit card.
Do you get access to the Nationwide online banking facilities ? How about this suggestion. Close down your most useless credit card and apply for an Egg Money card. You get 1% purchase rebate on everything you buy. The rate they offer you should not be a factor if you pay the card off in full every month. Some sites offer larger discounts.
If you are allowed to, then apply for a Nationwide esaver account. It is a good rate (4.75%) and you can transfer funds to your current account instantly prior to paying bills with your current account funds.

I would also recommend using credit cards whenever and wherever possible.
This guarantees you and gives you strenght when things are bad with the sellers.
Just a few days ago I had to threaten to stop a payment made via credit card due to non-compliant goods. Had I paid by debit card (which is like cash) I had no way to recover my money.
Debit cards of course can be required in some stores (LIDL) or can occasionally give you some smaller fees (easyjet), but generally I would avoid them for day-to-day shopping when a credit card is accepted.
As for the debit card with Nationwide. I had one with them for long time.
I had to wait some months before being able to apply (they have restrictions for the first six months when you join), but I got it first time I applied for. So, try the suggestion of talking directly to the branch amanger. They usually understand better than a machine!0 -

Just like Equifax free trials....very easy to take out the free trial, not as easy to cancel, I just emailed CustomerService@CreditExpert.co.uk and asked to cancel my trial, was done within a day.
Regarding Nationwide, I have been with them for 16 years and am very happy with 99% of things, would not change to another bank/bs, BUT I have found them much more picky/strict? than others banks, which has frustrated me over the years when applying for joint accounts/loans/mortgages etc, normal a nice threat to move my 10+ accounts has swayed a decision (not all the time tho :-( )0 -

But, the Nationwide debit card is a VISA card and VISA offers similar protection to S.75 on its Debit cards. Of course it does not have the backing of an Act of Parliament and I do not know the exact details of the protection offered, but it has been discussed on these baords before and also on the BBC2 programme: Working Lunch0 -
You have got me quite worried as my OH was about try to change her Nationwide Cash Card to a Debit card. She wants to be able to pay for Easyjet flights without having to pay the surcharge. Hopefully we will get on better..0
