Hi all,
Hope you all had a great christmas..I need some help, I recently found the charger for my laptop so now I am using it again after 2 years...however I am finding it is extremely slow!! I think there may be something on it, is there any program (that will not make it even slower) that I can use to figure out the problem.
Thanks in anticipation

This is all free to use
Try Malwarebytes Download install, update, quick scan and remove everything it finds http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
After Download and install CCleaner make sure your internet broswer is closed and press run cleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/download0 -
I'd follow these steps:
1. Run Windows Update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
2. Run CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com
3. Run an anti-virus scan: http://www.free-av.com/
4. Run an anti-spyware scan: http://www.superantispyware.com/
5, Run an anti-malware scan: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
6. Check the VRAM settings i.e.:
- Click Start, then open the Control Panel.
- Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Performance, click Settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual memory, click Change.
- Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. In almost every case, this will be your C: drive.
- Click to select the "System managed size" option, then click Set.
- Click OK three times and restart your computer.
7. Go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and uninstall anything not needed.
8. Run a defrag: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314848
9. Investigate msconfig: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/0 -
After trying MALWAREBYTES and CLEANER that Tom posted above
Open ccleaner and at the top it will tell you the service pack your on as well as the version number
Can you please give me the information UNDER that? (RAM, CPU and GRAPHICS)
Download HIJACK THIS
http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

Did you run the Malwarebytes scan? if not can you do so. if you did can you please post the log.
can you please post CCLEANERS info I asked for?
As for the Hijack log. I cant see anything obvious (Though a couple of things might be dodgy)
I also notice your using PCGuard! This is generally regarded as a very poor anti virus program. (And therefore you MUST run a FULL malwarebytes scan to check for nasties).
get TASK MANAGER up and running. What are the 3 highest cpu usage statistics?(other than SYSTEM IDLE):idea:0 -
You need to install all the latest windows updates service pack 3 is out now. Uninstall Pc Guard on Add and Remove this can be found under the Control Panel on the start menu. Then install Antivir after http://www.free-av.com/en/products/1/avira_antivir_personal__free_antivirus.html
Update your java http://java.com/en/
and also make sure you have the lastest graphics card drivers for your Ati card http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html0 -

I completely agree with what youve put there Tom. But I didnt mention Service Pack 3 yet as IF the computer is running on the limits for xp (0.5 Gig RAM for example), SP3 will bring it to a crawl!
Thats why I asked for said info......:idea:0 -
in the running processes list was this:-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DfrgNtfs.exe
is it running slow 'coz you have a defragger trying to work in the background ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
