I've been telling my son about the wonders of 18866/1899 and more recently about Telesavers & Cheapest calls. However he tells me that his telephone calls are routed through Powergen.
If he wishes to make international telephone calls, he asked how would he be affected. My reply was to dial either of the prefixs for the latter two providers and expect those particular calls to appear on his BT line rental bill, is this so?.

Your son appears to have CPS (carrier pre-select) and a BT line. Therefore all his calls will be routed via Powergen. If he wants to force any of his calls via BT, then he will need to insert 1280 before dialling the number he wants.
Similarly if he registers with 18866/1899 then he would simply dial the appropriate digits for 18866/1899 access prior to dialling the number of the person he wants to speak to.
Telesavers is a slightly different kettle of fish. If he wants to route his call through this service then I would say it might be best to dial the BT 1280 number, followed by the Telesavers access number, then the number of the person he wants to speak to. Though I think that the types of numbers that Telesavers use to route calls are exempt from the carrier preselect service.
If he uses Powergen or 18866/1899 for any calls then his bill for those calls will come from Powergen or 18866/1899. The calls will not be billed by BT on his exchange line rental bill.0 -

Hi island_manI've been telling my son about the wonders of ........ Telesavers & Cheapest calls.
If you read about these providers in THIS THREAD, where access numbers were posted, then do check the thread again for further discussion - the numbers which were posted don't work.
(The telesavers number given is a waste of money - you will be charged for ringing it, but unable to make any calls using it.)0
