If you just bought it in the sales - then go to TOMTOM homepage on internet and download the latest version of 'HOME' (version 2.5). When installed, reboot then connect your 520 via the usb docking station. Home will start up, first backup your 520, then 'update my device' (you may need to do this twice to bring the firmware upto the latest version 8.300. After your f/w is upto date, then goto 'tools' on top of Home and select 'use latest map guarantee'. This will update the map to version 815.2003. You then have a 520 that is as upto date as a 530 or 540 (with IQ routes and lane guidance enabled) for a fraction of the cost.
Hope this helps, PM me if you need any more help...
When I get to the latest map guarantee, it says that it cost £36 or something, is this right?? Or will it just do it for free??“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Ignore the last question, I worked it out myself, but then had to take the device back as it was faulty, sods law!! So got one of their 910 tomtoms for £60 although it did not come with any charger, mount etc!! So I will have to hit ebay for them.....Is it possible to get the latest maps on the 910 in the same way, or was that just a special offer on the 520's???“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

...the 910 will update, but not quite to the latest map (I think it is version 7.45 mid 2008). Only the x20, x30 and x40 range get latest maps for free within 30 days of purchase.
...that's still a bargain though and a good find for £60....0 -
I have a Tom Tom Go 510 and everytime I tried to update the maps in 2008 it deleted the speed cameras so I kept the old maps

Hmmm, I am beginning to wonder, it seems the windscreen mounts are £25 then another ten or twenty for a docking station. I may have been a bit hasty in my purchase I thinks.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

you can get a mount for about a tenner on ebay and docking station not needed - just a mini USB lead to connect to PC.0

or return for refund and try for one of these if budget allows...tis still excellent value.

Wish I had just kept the 520 now and just got tomtom to fix it, oh well, you live and learn, may just have to try and return it, as you said, it may be better off just spending a little more and getting a complete package.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
