Should I Cancel The Direct-Debit ?
I've just rang up and cancelled the o2 contracts we had.
There is £50-09 to come out of the account on 7 Jan 09.
The phones cease on the 26 Jan 09 and we get a final bill 14 days later.
Our next billing date is the 24 Jan 09 which we will get sent out a bill for, for the 2 days. If this bill is showing a minus figure then I have to phone 0870 600 3009 and request that o2 put the credit into our bank.
I would prefer to cancel the direct debit on the 8 Jan 09 when the payment has come out of the account and then pay o2 (via the post office) however much for the 2 days. Would this be possible ?

I'm maybe wrong but that is exactly what I would do. Seems a bit daft to do otherwise.
They cant take you to court for it if you pay it straightaway. Saves messing about and maybe having to make an expensive phone callmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
1) Don't trust what O2 tell you when giving notice to cancel by phone. Call and again and make sure it's actually been done - AND make a note of the time/date/person when you do. 2) A full month's payment will go out in January - not just two days. 3) Don't cancel the direct debit until this is all done and dusted - it can lead to worse problems. 4) ALL networks keep the final over-payment UNLESS you call them and demand a refund.0

1. Yep, got time/date and name of person wrote down. I'll phone again on monday to double check all has gone through properly.
2. Yes I know a full months payment will go out in January (on the 7th). Its the 2 days from our billing date (24th of the month) to the day the contracts close (26th January) that I was referring to.
3. I was planning on cancelling the direct debit on the 8th January when the monthly payment has gone out of the account.
4. How good are o2 at actually processing the refund when asked for it ? Hence I would rather receive a bill for 2 days and pay it, rather than have the hassle of phoning them up on an 0870 number and having to get money back from them.0 -

T-Mobile gave me a credit without me requesting it, when I closed my account. They sent my final statement, which was negative, so I rang them and they confirmed they were intending to credit my account.
I will probably go back to T-Mobile, as 3 are not on a par.
ETA: as long as you communicate with O2, so they know your intentions and you know theirs, it should be gravy.0 -
cally2008 2) I was referring to that too, not the early january one. I haven't got to the end of a T-Mobile contract yet, but as far as Orange are concerned I can testify to having completed many and NONE of them sent me the credit back automatically.0

no they dont, orange automatically send out a cheque for any credits
HA! sorry, but I had 2 months worth of trouble with orange and it took a month for my refund and 4 calls later. So, I had to call for mine. Plus there was a whole lot of other rubbish they did on my account but thats not for this thread. Just to add, T-mobile automatically refund over £19.99, anything under they have to call in for. It may be the same for Orange, as mine was slightly under the £20 mark.
Anyway, I never personally cancel my Direct Debits, due to the fact that I can keep track of whats been paid and when. For example I paid out a month car payment that I didn't need to (as was leaving the company) and called back 3 days later for a refund. If there's any problems, that way it's between them and the bank. But thats just my opinion.0 -
Is a wise one.0
