For anyone that is feeling bad about going BR

The cost of celebrating Christmas at Britain's nationalised banks. Lloyds TSB, which is accepting about £5.5 billion from taxpayers to shore up its broken balance sheet, is to spend around £2.5 million on Christmas parties for its 100,000 UK employees, or around £25 a head. Meanwhile, HBOS is hosting a "luxury dinner and dance" at the Birmingham NEC for 1,500 mortgage workers, with free hotel rooms thrown in. Meanwhile, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is spending £1 million on parties for its 100,000 staff. RBS also spent more than £300,000 entertaining 40 senior employees and 30 partners recently.

Alex Neil MSP, an SNP member representing central Scotland, reflected the mood north of the border when he said the bank was "playing with fire". He added: "I don't want to be a party pooper, but spending £1m on Christmas parties when so many pensioners have lost their savings as a result of the RBS share collapse is obscene."

This really annoys me as the big message we got from head office was "christmas is cancelled" because of bad publicity that hbos staff were getting in the newspapers on nights out. So across all the branches and call centres, our own xmas nights out which are paid for by ourselves are cancelled and not allowed. And then this is going ahead!

guilty feelings about BR, not me!

  • Well, that certainly helps my decision about what to do about my debts ;)

As a point though, if RBS is spending £1 mil on 100,000 employees, isn't that only a tenner per head? What they doing for that, cheese and pineapple on sticks?!

dunno but i have a funny story about barclaycard.....

i had a barclaycard and a monument card

    barclays took monument over...

so then i had TWO "barclaycards"

one month i decided to clear the barclay card (ex-monument) and sent £2500

but fat finger me sent it to the PROPER barclaycard by mistake

2 months later in screaming at a asian call centre cos i didnt owe the proper account anything so i had a £2500 balance....IN CREDIT! and needed it back to pay the barclay(was monument)card

after 3 weeks trying i got em to send it back to my bank

then they sent it AGAIN...... result!

in the confusion they didnt get it back either

not sure where it ended up.....................
  • tenner per head for its 'normal' staff, £4285 a head for its senior employees, wonder if there staff knew, nice to know your worth in a company isnt it:rolleyes:
