    Thank you, Ariania!

I will be most interested to read the responses you get to see if they are the same as my TS officer's view. I would love to be proved wrong on this actually as I think making soap for a gift is brilliant.

As a certified and assessed cosmetic manufacturer, I would be only too happy to share recipes and ideas with all of you if I were convinced it would be legal to make and give them to your loved ones :)

Further to the discussion we had on here a while back, I was directed from consumer direct to trading standards who got back to me today with this response:

    Dear Ms [ARIARNIA],

Further to our conversation this afternoon I can confirm the following.

Based on the amount that you advised you would be making, the ingredients you intend to use and the fact that the items will only be shared amongst the 6 members of you group for your Christmas hamper. [AS RELEVANT TO WHAT I'M DOING AS THE GROUP IS CLOSE FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS] We would advise that the precautions that you would need to take in relation to the Cosmetic Product Safety Regulations would include keeping a list of the ingredients and the quantities of each [IN CONVERSATION IT WAS STATED THAT IT WAS FINE THAT I WAS MEASURING PER CUPS IN RATIO], along with an instruction to accompany the product advising how the product should be used and that it should not be ingested or used on certain areas.

Should either the ingredients or nature of distribution change or expand then you should contact us again for further advice, as the information above may alter. This will be the case even if you do not intend to sell them but simply distribute to a wider group.

    Yours sincerely,

    Rachel Calnan

SO MY GROUPS HAMPERS GO AHEAD.

Rachel was a very nice lady, and anyone who's concerned about this might want to contact their trading standards to discuss what they're planning on making as it seems it varies from area to area and it is not automatically illegal to give home made cosmetics as gifts.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Jars are 3 for £1 from the £ shop. Then i just used some scraps of ribbon to go around the lid, cut out a label and added some wrap, but you could put it in a small box or a gift bag. The card warehoue place do 8 gift bags for £1 which are just the right size for these jars.

primark are selling some cute fleece sleeping bag blankets.

I got my kids 1 each they are £2.97 each and are made of fleece, they roll up when finished with and have a little carry handle sewn onto them so that they can take them anywhere. They are lovely if you have younger one's under 10 years old.

    liking the jars of nothing

am feeling much better except the heartburn from the antibiotics so hoping to get some crafting done this weekend when hubby at work

have been scouring ebay for cellophane but can i ask, for a hamper approx 12"x12" how much cellophane do you need ,so i can roughly estimate how much i will need in total?

was in ikea last night ,just to get out of the house, and they have all their christmas stuff out ,just before the tills-they had some packets of 6 cone shapes with handles which looked nice and i thought would be easily made but cant think of anywhere i need them for this year
on ikea site they show them hanging on the tree but dont give the name or a link to them unfortunately and head still being a bit fuddled cant remember price
