I might put a few fat balls out or something and see what happens, I like having wildlife in the back but never have a proper back garden
If you get an old tray you aren't bothered about, get some Webbox dogfood (Morrisons, 49p a tube) and chop it up into small chunks, pop it on the tray and set it out in the backyard ... the birds LOVE it!
With it containing a lot of moisture it will help them even if you don't put water out for them, plus you won't get any mess at all left behind because they will eat every last bit of it *S*
All the birds eat it, from the robins to starlings and everything in between so you should attract them all too *S* ...0 -
Thanks for the hint, can you get it anywhere else because we don't have a Morrisons anywhere near us. Our yard is really long and thin with a tall wall, will they see it on the floor or should I put it on top of the wall so they can see it? Sorry to hijack the Christmas thread
Actually, to get it back on topic, I've heard you can make fatcakes from the drippings tray of George Foreman grills by putting seeds and peanuts in the tray and then topping it up with the fat drippings as normal and turning it out when it's full. Could try one of those as a festive treat?D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -

Sallyx, I love, love, love your sock monkey! It looks great! ...Was it difficult to make?
Well done you... I'm not surprised your daughter loves it!

I saw some Reindeer gift tags in Matalan the other day - the only thing is they came in a pack with (I think) Santas. But they are in there 3 for 2 stuff.
Hope this helps

Actually it was remarkably easy, but I did use a wool mix sock which I think makes it easier as there is less stretch

Claire - you haven't got 'weeds' you've got 'wild flowers'..........lol Bottom part of our garden has a pond in it and a whole load of 'wild flowers'..........and if you've got them, and butterflies visiting you're bound to have some birds lurking nearby waiting for a treat.
Shaz - you could paint some flowerpots I expect -never thought of that. The ones I've got were red anyway and part of a christmas present of seeds to grow in them......Didn't like to throw them out and then OH found some tiny terracotta coloured ones and came up with the 'robins breakfast' idea. So everyones getting one this year............:rotfl:
Which reminds me...........must get some birdseed to put in them............if I don't make a start on them I'll not get them done.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Someone has just updated the sock monkey thread with a picture of a mini monkey made with children's socks, they attach suckers to the hands and stick them to the car windows, they're super cuteD'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0
