wombat, any more natural resources / commodities take your fancy.
Having just completed my 2008 price updates (sad though I am), all I can say is that the CentralFund of Canada investment in physicall gold and silver (about 60% Au and 40% Ag now) has finished 2008 at its highest value (in GBP terms). This is down to Golds sort of recovery, the fall in USD / GBP exchange rate and the premium than CEF now sits at (about 18%) - although apparently the premium for physical gold is particularly high atm.

Most commentators (take it for what its worth) feel that inflationary pressure will arrive towards the back end of 2009, i.e. atm all the money being pumped in to the economies of the world and are not actually being used yet, other than to stabalise banks etc, etc. It is expected that inflation will rise once all this money starts feeding through.

For 2009, and going forward in general, 'volatility' will be the word.

I expect (hope) Gold to make new highs in 2009 but wouldn't be suprised for it to retest recent lows as well. Additionally I think equities / the markets are likely to suffer another substantial 'crisis of confidence' during 2009.

Still, who knows............ let the games begin
