I wanna buy a brand new car

I think maybe the "why" question was because no sane person would ever buy a new car. They lose between 20 to 40% of their value the minute they are registered. You buy a car tomorrow for £8,000 and the minute you drive it away it's worth £6,000. Best way I know to lose money, other than gambling.

I've only ever bought new cars, the reson being that with a number of factors they are cheaper overall than buying used if you pick the right model and pay the right price. Not many new cars are ever bought for the full RRP, which is what most people calculate their "savings" from. New car published prices are also on the road prices, second hand cars usually need to have road tax and sometimes document and valeting fees added too

New cars generally have a 3 year warranty, 3 years breakdown cover, come with all new parts and don't require an MOT for 3 years. In the 10 years of my driving I've never broken down, never bought a part for a car (except the usual servicing and one tire to broken glass in the road).

You don't buy cars for investment, they virtually all lose money.
  • To keep the 7 year warranty valid I assume you have to have it servided to the MFR recommendations? The people that I know that have had new cars have got it thru the 3rd year warranty with propper servicing then just had oil an filter an kick of the tyres by some bloke called jim for a few beer tokens.

I persoanlly can't see anyone stickin to MFR servicing guidelines for 7 years.

I've bought a brand new car ONCE and would never do it again. I got 29% hacked off the price cos I knew the manager.
  • 7 year warranty isn't much good if they go bust.

Just now Ssangyosan (sp) Korea's smallest car manufacturer is in trouble and cannot pay Decembers wages.

This is the first of the Korean car manufacturers to admit to problems. Not sure how Kia will be affected. Waiting to find out.

Out here we have Daewoo (in trouble as it's GM), Hyundai (slowing sales) Kia (unsure at the moment), Renault-Samsung (some arrangement with renault) and Ssyangson (sp).

I'll keep an eye on the papers and update if I there is any more news about them.

Kia is part of Hyundai, I would suggest that there is less chance of Hyundai going bust than most car makers, including GM, Ford, Chrysler etc. etc.
  • If it is pre registered you also need to ask if this is a pre-reg' where you don't get the logbook. You wouldn't buy a used car and let the seller keep the logbook themselves, so don't do it on a new car either.

If there IS logbook retention and you're still willing to hand your money over, then run it past your insurance co' first as most want to see that you are the registered keeper of the car in the DVLA's eyes...and you won't be.

  • I have just phoned the dealer who told me that their cars are unregistered. It is an official Kia dealer. They said that because they buy in bulk, they get good discounts from the manufacturer.

Is it also normal for the car to have mileage between 3 and 27? This is our first car and we have no experience whatsoever in buying cars.

They said that they would order the model from Kia and it would take two weeks for it to be delivered from the dock; is this normal?

Sounds OK to me, they are main Kia Dealers so I would not think that you would have any problems.

3 to 27 miles is about normal.

I assume that it is in red only at that price.
