PS2/PS3 Games Not Playing

Hi and Merry Christmas

Last year I bought my son a PS3 with the larger memory. All of his ratchet and clank games which are PS2 don't play properly on the PS3. I thought it might of been because of scratches. In his stocking today he got a brand new ratchet clank PS2, and again it gets stuck in the very same place as his orginal game.

Also, he got another new game today which is a PS3 game and it's not playing.

Is there some way that I can clean his PS3 machine.

I can't work out if it is the machine playing up or whether the games just arn't supposed to play. Seems crazy to have a PS2 and a PS3.

Any advice please.

Most of the ps2 games won't work on the newer ps3's.
Although i cant see why the ps3 game wont work, is that in good condition?

Which PS3 game doesnt play? Does it come up on the menu screen? What happens when you try to play it?

The icon of it loading shows but it doesn't open up. It did play the very first time, but it crashed on 4th level and now won't play. Any ideas?

Sounds like its possibly knackered to me

Can you borrow another game disc (any PS3 game) off someone to try?

Why have sony brought out a new playstation 3, if you can't play the ps2 games on them. This is really frustrating and such a con.

None of the PS3 games are playing - so it must be the machine. I'm just out of guarantee as well. Is there some type of cleaning disk I can try before sending it off for repair?

Well there are standard dvd cleaning discs with little brushes on that clean the lense

Hi Terry

I had the same problem about a month ago with PS3 failing to read disks, Games, Blu Ray or DVD and it was out of warranty. Found that a similar issue was happening with other users on the sony user forum and they had a helpdesk number to call.

I gave them a shout, they asked a few simple diagnostic questions and they arranged to pick it and returned it 3 days later at no charge. Just remember to back up any data to a usb stick or drive
