Has anybody use this company for cheap international phone calls? I have just noticed it will only cost me 5p to call to Mauritius. I usually pay 15p with 18866. Also while I was away hubby input the wrong code to dial France, he input the code to dial Mauritius at 15p which started with 091... That call came out to be expensive, I would have thought it would not be able to gain access. Does anybody whether this is possible to dial the wrong access and still get through but at a higher rate. Thanks.

Yes of course it's possible to dial an incorrect access code and then be routed to a number. Remember, it's only the access code that's different; the telephone number remains the same.
If you have a mobile phone with free minutes included in your monthly line rental, then you can use these minutes to call Mauritius at no extra charge by dialling 0744 974333 from your mobile phone. Here is a link to the site which gives details.

My gf used cheapestcalls.co.uk to phone a mobile in Mauritius last week and we had no problems. I've not had the phone bill yet so it remains to be seen whether it was 5p/min.
The access number I used (from the site) was 0844 566 15 15, so as long as you use the correct access number for the correct country, you shouldn't be overcharged.
Steve_xx, thanks for that link. Looks interesting. Have you tried it yourself? Its worth having a look at as long as the mobile networks allow 07744 numbers in the inclusive minutes and as long as they haven't barred the number.Boo!0 -
Dronegc - Yes your call using the 0844 number will indeed be charged at 5p per minute, assuming you forced the call through BT?
Take note that 0844 numbers have several different tariffs dependent on whether you call them during peak, evening or weekend rate periods and also dependent on the next few digits after the 0844 prefix. Alternate call routers will often quote the best of these rates, so be careful when you call.
I have not used the 077 number via Simplyphone. I was just acting advisorily with that one. I'm sure it's ok though.
Below is another useful link for you. This one tells what BT charge residential customers to dial numbers in the 08 range.

hi there,
i do call mauritius quite often as well. if i can understand from what you are saying.. using the 07744974333 to make an international call is counted as part of the x-network minutes, meaning it is viewed as being a normal call to another mobile in the uk?is that correct?
if it is, then how does these companies make their money?will the phones network not charge extra?

Kaz - you are correct, ie the calls will be counted as part of your cross-network minutes.
When you call the 077 number your call is terminated on that mobile network operators exchange. That network makes a charge to the calling network for delivering the call initiated by them.
Look at it like this: you make a call to Australia from your BT phone. BT carries the call over the airwaves and then the Australian phone company delivers the call to their customer. The Aussie company won't deliver it for free. They make a charge to BT for delivering the call. This is transparent to the caller and the tariff is structured to take account of these costs. Some countries charge more than others and that's why tariffs differ from country to country. Similar arrangements are in place for calls across operators in the UK.
All telecoms networks operate in this way.0 -

BT charge 5p/minute for 0844 566 xxxx calls. Isn't that the standard charge from cable landlines as well?30 years, 217 days!0
