Do you have space in the garden for a good warm garden shed to give either yourself a hiding space, or to get the kids out of your hair. Especially if they can camp out there in the summer.
At the seaside, many B&B owners move into sheds in their garden at peak times so they have an extra bedroom they can let out in their main house.0 -
That's a thought, Pastures new. I'll look into thatProud to be dealing with my debts :T

There are some nice "sheds" - at around about £1,000 - as I recall. It may be possible to get one cheaper. If you're very lucky then maybe Freecycle might have one. I know that years back a friend of mine lived in a rather nice garden "shed" - I quite envied him...0

Hawthorn I read your post with growing concern, let me tell you a story.
We were in a privately rented house, semi 2 beds with central heating and a garage. The bathroom and kitchen were fitted in the 70's when the house was built and although some of the windows had been replaced the upstairs windows badly needed doing, the amount of heat lost through them was enormous.
We had a burglar alarm fitted to the property, it was in a bit of a risky area, and we also put our own carpets down.
In October 2006 we had a letter from the landlord saying that he was putting the rent collection in the hands of an agent, and we duly got a letter from the agent arranging to come and look round the property, which they did. We pointed out several things we felt needed seeing to, and just before Christmas a new window was fitted in the bathroom, the difference in temperture was amazing.
In February 2007 we got a letter from the agent saying that the rent was going up from £350 a month to £475..............I just could not believe it.
We were fortunate that we were offered this apartment in a sheltered hosuing scheme, just a couple of weeks into March and moved in in April.
Just after we moved I saw our old neighbour, she told us that the landlord had ripped out the kitchen and bathroom and also replaced the rest of the windows.........a couple moved in and they were paying £650 a month.........what made this really galling was that the landlord was my step son, and he had told his father he was prepared to house him for the rest of his life!!!! We always paid market rent, were never late with the rent, and did quite a lot to improve the house and garden whilst we were living in the house...........
I know this scenario would not be yours, but renting privately is a nightmare. Have you asked the HA if they can move you to a bigger house, you are obviously over crowded as you are.
I do applaud your decision to stay where you are for the time being, chuck every penny you can at your debts and hopefully you will be able to buy something more suitable..........if not you can console your self that the children are growing up....and may well leve home anyway.
I wish you all the luck in the world.......................Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
