Hi Hawthorn
Glad to hear that you're staying put - I did panic for you when I read that you were thinking of moving to a privately rented place! Stick wtih the security for the time being, you never know what's round the corner.
I can imagine that it's a tight squeeze in the house just now, but think that the days are beginning to get longer already and it won't be long until we've got a bit more daylight - always helps me to cheer up.
I'm sure you'll do will in the coming year and clear off that Visa bill. It's my challenge for the coming months too0 -
The thing you have to remember is you will also be paying extra council tax more for electricity extra lights and tvs in rooms more for gas bigger house more space to heat double glazing doesn't necessarily mean cheaper gas bills
you will be better off using the extra to pay off debts and treat the kids to days out
Also are you not able to get a bigger house from the housing association or council as you are classed as over crowded?0 -
We're trying Craftynutters - In an ideal world, I would love to not have to rely on social housing, but I have contacted them.
Because of flooding last year, it's all up in the air. The housing association CAN move us to a larger property, but it would be on the south bank of the Humber, which would make Hubs travel to work very expensive, and isolate me from family (which I need for support due to MH problems) Housing lists in the area have been closed down, as many people are still having work done on their homes.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

If your on the list and they know of your MH problems you should be offered somewhere near to family because of these problems they should be able to do more for you see if you can speak to someone who is able to help also have you seen if there is anybody in the area who would do a exchange maybe someone whos family have left home and are looking to downsize?0

I've seen council exchanges, but not Housing Association, which is what we are
The HA don't have any fours in our area at all, let alone empty ones.
The council a year or two ago, offered us another house, out in the sticks. It was even smaller than the one we have, if that's possible LOL.
They just don't have anything available right now *shrugs*
What can you do?Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

HAWTHORN ....
There are six ofus in our family...
we used to be in council property when there was only 3 of us but we are now in private rent...it is alost 4 times the amount of the tiny flat we used to be in but the hallway and downstairs bathroom + utility room is bigger than the flat..
Teh extra money we pay on rent makes it so much easier for us due to the space we have...
we still have a 3 bedroom place but we have 2 reception rooms downstairs one of which has been turned into our 10 year old daughters bedroom..
Ther kitchen is..well huge...it was extended and the old kitchen is now a study area and with a small sette in it an ideal grown up quite area..
Basically what im saying is......GO FOR THE BIGGER HOUSE......once your debts are paid of than you can loosen the belt slightly..THE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0 -
up here you can exchange between council and housing !!!. no problem.0

Heh. I've just been playing with figures.
If we're strict, the extra onto the C/C that we would be paying in rent, will allow us to be free of that debt in about a year and a half. I can live with thatCourse, Hub also gets pay rise in october next year, so we could reduce that even further.
I'm feeling MUCH more positive about the whole thing now. I may just start planning a good holiday for when it's all paid off..two years from now. It would be lovely to take the family away for a week. I'm thinking, norfolk broads. I love the broads...or cottage in the lake district? Centreparcs?
If we stick to our budget (which at the moment includes £200 a month spending money for all six of us, allowing us to have some treats, and £100 a month to put away for birthdays/christmas, so we're not going to be hard up LOL.....any left over, which there SHOULD be, will be paid into CC)
Finally got some idea of where we are at, and boy does it feel good.
Cheers, and a happy new year to all of you. 2009 is going to be a GOOD year
Going to do a spending diary too, to see just where we are spending that extra cash, which we don't seem to have. Hmmm.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

I know you have made up your mind about what to do now. And it seems like the right thing for you. May I make a suggestion? when I had 2 large teenage boys and a girl at home in my 3 bed (small house) I put the boys in the largest bedroom, the girl in the middle bedroom and ourselves in the (very) smallest bedroom.
My theory was that kids spend quite a bit of time in thier rooms and adults don't. This meant we had a faiirly peacful lounge. And when hordes of 6 footers turned up we could just direct them upstairs.
Now I am down to only 2 teens with a room each and I reclaimed the master bedroom. Worked for us anyway.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:
