a shock to the regulars

I am often accused of being in the employ of paypal as I defend it so much..but I appear to be actually less trusting than the majority on this thread

I'm sure half the regulars on here are now in a dead faint at me advising against accepting paypal on a van!

Scammers already know the trick and sellers know better than to trust a collection item to ebay/paypal...that's why there is so little stuff showing as available for collection now, sellers won't risk it any longer.

I am on the lookout for a telescope.
A newbie was selling one for over £1,000, He put on the auction that it is collection only but you can pay with paypal.
I told him he is almost certainly going to get scammed but he said he would get the person to sign a receipt when they collect.
The receipt is not worth the paper it is written on if a dishonest buyer makes a cliam for non receipt with paypal.
P.S. I didnt buy it because it was above my price range.

Just put in very big letters just under the description -

SAVE ON PAYPAL FEES, this item is available for 'Cash On Collection'
    or

Collection in Person - CASH ONLY PLEASE, NO PAYPAL ACCEPTED ON THIS ITEM.

It always works for me. If they are genuine buyers then they will willingly pay cash to avoid any fees, if they are scammers, then they will insist on using paypal.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

It would be against the Ebay rules to require purchasers to pay fees for Paypal.

Paypal is not required on cars or other vehicles however on other items both of those statements will get you a performance warning if reported to ebay, you'll also get your auction pulled.

You cannot refuse paypal any more.

    Debt-free and Proud!
But you can offer an incentive to buyers who pay cash / cheque, such as 10% off price. Makes up for poss headache caused by chancers/scammers.

It isn't the genuine buyers we need worry about , it is onl;y the scammers and If you are worried about scammers then I can't see that any incentive would stop them using paypal
