I wonder how much this is to do with their Woolworths relationship (as Zavvi's main supplier); although I thought that Entertainment UK was still trading - website certainly looks like it's business as usual.

Yes, Zavvi was being supplied by Entertainment UK, which is still trading but is now controlled by the Woolies administators. While the previous Entertainment UK management were happy (sort of) to keep supplying Zavvi in the hope of all trading through Zavvi owed them over £100 million apparently.

The Admistrators were not happy to extend more credit (and could have been personally liable had they done so) thus no more supplies to Zavvi, leading to their collapse today.

What about the gift vouchers? Should I go out now and spend them today?

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Thee last time I went into a zavvi was about 3 months (brunswick centre nr russell square) everything and I mean everything was overpriced and no !!!!!! was in there, partly becuase there wasn't a great range of stuff in there.

This really has come as no surprise, and I feel sorry for the staff.

  • Wow. It's one company a day! Yesterday it was Whittard, today it's Zavvi. Last week it was Woolworths!

This is madness! *insert "This is Sparta" animated gif*
  • Some of the box sets, usually £150, down to around £50 nearly got my attention, if there's a closing down event, I'll have to take a look...

BBC News: All of Zavvi's stores should be open as normal on Boxing day, for its traditional post-Christmas sale.

It will still be trading whilst in administration , though there may not be a great deal of stock left.

And there'll be more to close unfortunately. I wonder how many more though? Less than 5 major retailers?
