Just announced on Sky News. No link yet.

2500 permanent employees and 1000 temps.

Never thought I'd see the end of the Virgin Megastores but they were retail dinosaurs I suppose. Maybe it'll help the likes of HMVstay afloat.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

I wonder how much this is to do with their Woolworths relationship (as Zavvi's main supplier); although I thought that Entertainment UK was still trading - website certainly looks like it's business as usual.

Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
  • All these people losing jobs is terrible. The thing is, and I'll whisper this next bit, all the shops that are going under haven't been run very well, don't offer what the customer wants, tend to treat the customer badly and don't deserve to be on the high street.

It was only a matter of time that some of these places went, hopefully they'll be replaced by worthy business which will employ many more staff than these shops have made redundant.

I still feel terrible for the staff though. Not good at all.

When you can buy just about everything they sell online without even looking hard (Play/Amazon) and have the items delivered free within 2 or 3 days, it's not a surprise that these retailers disappear ??

It's the 21st century.........the High Street was on it's last legs even before the "credit cruch" started.

RIP Zavvi.... as other say, they were a dinosaur same as Woolworths.

They few times that I consider buying music / dvd's / games etc, I wouldn't even think of going into town.... the internet is everyone's friend.

Ironically the thing that saves us money and is a lot more convenient for us all will be the thing that puts a lot of us out of jobs.
