I hear there is a flu epidemic this year and while it is not the flu, I started coming down with the cold on Saturday. Since then it has gotten progressively worse and I am loaded with various remedies to try and get rid.
I am due to start work at 8am and so far tonight I have had precisely no sleep as everytime I lie down I start to cough. OH is ok as he could sleep through an earthquake but I just can't manage to drop off at all. It is getting to the stage where I a going to have to call in sick as I won't be able to stay awake....not that I want to go in and pass it round everyone else anyway.

Yes, me  . It's crept up on me over the last 24 hours and like you I can't sleep for coughing. Just out of hosp last week after an asthma attack and feeling oh, so sorry for myself wih a sore throat, head that feels like it's exploding every time I cough...you know the symptoms. I don't even want Christmas, just to be able to sleep! Take the day off, be good to yourself... and get well soon!0

Daughter had it since 3rd December and decided to share with the rest of us. I'm finally starting to dry up but daughter's turned into chest infection, tonsilitis and ear infection. Seems to be lasting longer than normal too, that's about 10 days i've had it

It seems to be the same everywhere as I have exactly the same symptoms. My sister has had it twice - she managed to pass it to all 3 of her kids and the wee one is only 4 months, and they in turn passed it back to her again! OH had it a month ago and I was lucky to avoid it then as he had to make his 1st trip to the doc in 5 years for antibiotics as his went into a sinus infection and everything, thoroughly unpleasant!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Seems to be the same for us all - OH has told me I'm not even allowed to sit next to him as my cough sounds so bad. Apparently I am making all these weird noises and I dont even know about it! I can be sitting watching tv and when I look round at him he is laughing at me......the curse of the cold - I hope he gets it again (not) then I can laugh at him!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

I feel for you all and hope that you all get better soon. There's always someone not well at Xmas - 2 years ago it was me and OH together, and in 1999 I had the full blown flu (I only remember as it was my first year in my current job and I felt so bad at taking the time off work on Xmas day!)."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

I had it from 4 Dec for about a week then the cough carried on up to Christmas Eve - not a nice cough, once I started I couldn't seem to catch my breath until I was almost vomiting (yuck!). I'm 6 months pregnant so the only option was paracetamol for the temperature - but the pharmacist recommended simple linctus for the cough, which actually seemed to work.
I think I caught it from my mum who was ill following her flu jab, but as there's a lot of it around it could be from anywhere...0 -
Its had me bed bound twice in a month! Awful awful! I'm taking vitimin C every morning now and eating fruit like its about to go out of fashion and it seems to be helping to perk me up a bit, I just need to stay away from all those sneezers and splutterers out there, some people just dont know how to cover their mouth!!0

Got some !!!!!! of a cold and I think I also had a vomiting bug - as I wasn't eating anything from having a cold though (it knocked me out till 5.30pm first day then ate very little second day) I may have skipped the worst effects of it!
Thought this cold was on it's way out but it seems to be worse than a few days ago. fs.. I went to sleep at 10.30 and woke up 2 hours later thinking I'd had a full night's sleep. Got changed, turned on PC and then realised it was only 2 hours later
At least Tescos is quiet at 3am in the morning
