This is what needs to happen. Yes it is not like that here yet.
But if a few big developers started throwing up huge skyscrapers full of thousands of tiny flats all around the country then there would be excess supply for cheap housing and not much demand.
Also they need to relax the tight planning laws so if someone like Mr Fidler wants to build a castle on his own land he should be allowed to.
Over the next decade there needs to be a lot more homes added to the supply. The thing about chaos is, it's fair.0 -

No, it doesn't.Over the next decade there needs to be a lot more homes added to the supply.
Some, yes. But there's a lot of empty housing about, and there's a lot of disused industrial/commercial/brownfield that could very easily be redeveloped long before we get anywhere NEAR those kind of population densities.
The population density of the UK as a whole is about 250 people per km2. The population density of London is about 5,200 people per km2 or 4,100 for Birmingham. The population density of Hong Kong is about 6,500 people per km2.0 -
Yeah, yeah, he's a folk hero, the little man running rings round authority. Should be allowed to get away with it.

Is that an ugly building for monks ?0 -
I've seen and been in many of these flats in Asia. Most are far more luxurious and equipped than the houses in the UK. I prefer them and the UK should build these in cities. The standard is far higher than anything we build or have ever built in the UK whatever the type of property.0

Its getting that way in London, they are building thousands and thousands of flats but only hundreds of houses every year.
I expect they will have to go higher in the future to accomodate the growing numbers.
PS Is is still there, has he got away with the Tudor castle? The thing about chaos is, it's fair.0 -
Hold your horses I have the solution, this will now make every illegal build totally legit -

Is the castle still there? So is it confirmed he has gotten away with it?The thing about chaos is, it's fair.0

Is the castle still there?
Yes.So is it confirmed he has gotten away with it?
Far from it. He ran out of appeals last spring, and was left with a very large bill and an order to demolish.
He's just put in another retrospective planning permission application, this time claiming it's needed on agricultural grounds, now that he's got more cows.

If it gets refused again (as it's almost bound to be), then you know what'll happen - he'll appeal, appeal, appeal - and all that'll happen is that it'll end up with an even bigger legal bill and another order to demolish.
Rinse, repeat, until he goes bankrupt. Then, of course, it'll all be "the council's fault".0 -
Same old same old, for years now people say "no he hasnt got away with it, it will have to come down this time"
All the time he is laughing at the council and he has indeed got away with it.
I would say in 10 years time it will be the same old story, he has to knock it down this time. But I would guess it will still be there. The thing about chaos is, it's fair.0
