What you make of this will depend on whether you regard planning laws on what people can and can't build a pettifogging bureaucracy - "the little grey people" at the council, as one of the subjects puts it - or a plank of civilised living.
The "grey people" quote comes from an entrepreneur, who built a home for his elderly mother in green belt Surrey, but made it a few metres bigger than the council had approved.... Battles ensued, culminating in bulldozers moving to demolish the structure - a dreadful sight but not quite the return to Nazi Germany the victims claim.
Melody Howsee's likeable film captures three stories of planning grief in touching, sometimes cringe making detail:
[Straw bale home on agricultural land / 6' stone lions on Pevensey marshes / "granny flat"].

You sound like you know all about him. How does he get legal aid to go to court all the time if he has money like that?
Do you think the castle will ever come down?0 -
The planning laws in this country need a complete overhaul IMO to ensure some consistency.
The need for extra housing will in my view necessitate some major changes and not before time.
So what if this guy built a home, he's got to live somewhere and if its in the one he built it frees up another somewhere else for another family.
There will always be rich people in our society and envy is not the way to stop / prevent progress. Green belt and AONB categories are rubbish and only important when its individuals that want to build. Totally not an issue though if a socking great motorway needs extending etc etc. Whats more harm to the countryside then, one house or bloomin acres of destruction.
I very much take the view that if someone's not hurting me or mine leave them be.:beer:0 -

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. There are far more bothersome things I'd be concerned about ie sewage works, landfill sites etc etc.
IMV people need to stop being so ' precious' about things that don't impact on them. Most of these busy bodies need to get a life and put their efforts into something worthwhile ie volunteer work.:beer:0 -
