What can I do about my sagging cushions !

I bought a sofa from Sofa Workshop Direct around five years ago and although we don't have young children buoncing on the cushions, they have gone rather saggy and thin and look awful unless they are plumped up and not sat on .... but that's no good !!!

I am aware there are companies who can re-fill them (no doubt at an extortionate cost) and wondered if there were any money saving ways I could do it myself.

All ideas appreciated !

Thank you.

PS Wish I knew someone who was a stuffer at The Bear Factory - that would do the job !!!!

    Sagging cushions - cosmetic surgery?
    Bad joke sorry.
I'm pretty sure you can have cushions refilled quite cheaply by an upholsterer.
    Happy chappy
  • I have seen a corrugated support thing that goes under the cushions, but can't remember where, sorry :-(

    Try a Google search.

  • you can get the concertina things in places like Lakeland and Dunelm Mill. But you may need to contact an upholsterer who will be able to advise ona suitable filling for your cushions. I had mine done recently (4 seater sofa with 2 kiddies jumping regularly and it cost about £100, but my sofa is only 18 months old.

    Hi Helen
You don't say if your cushion interiors are foam or feather, I assume feather as you mention 'plumped up'. In Edinburgh there is a company who refill cushions, duvets etc and you can probably find these in any large town. If it is a foam filling there are several companies who supply new cushions in foam. I can't remember names offhand but I'll try and find some. I saw it advised somewhere that it is better to have feather cushions on the back of a sofa but foam for the seat cushions. If feathers are sagging badly it might be a good idea to go for foam.

When I bought my suite there was the option of choosing either feather or foam for the seat & back cushions. I'd learnt from friends how flat feather seat cushions would go, so I opted for feather back cushions & foam seat cushions. I was told I could order feather seats should I wish to at any time in the future, but the foam is lovely & comfortable & regains it's shape as soon as you get up.

If you look in the yellow pages you'll probably find companies that could cut you foam for your seat cushions at quite a reasonable cost.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

if you are covered by scotchguard they will plump them as part of the cover but mine was only for first five years so it depends on the end date, hope this helps someone!

You can get a Sofa Saver from catalogues like Betterware. They cost about £20. I bought one for my sofa about 6 months ago and it's like a new one again.

  • Sorry I've not been online for a while but I've had problems with my virus software and daren't risk it.

My sofa was scotchguarded but I'm sure I've had it for longer than 5 years so probably won't still be covered.

The cushions are not feather filled but they are not filled with blocks of foam either, when you feel it through the cover it's like you could pull it apart. On the two seater sofa the cushions aren't too saggy because they are not as wide but on the three seater sofa (two cushions) they haven't kept their shape at all and sag quite a lot and to make it look half decent we keep having to turn them over and over and over.

The 3 seater is a sofa bed (not that we use it very often) so thought the metal frame on that would give it quite a bit of support underneath, obviously not. I will try out the concertina contraption first as I it'll be lots cheaper than getting the cushions re-filled and may solve my problem.

Many thanks for all your help.

PS Will go onto the f/f page and update you all.
