Yeah and HMV didn't get my business either but they are ripping people off. It's no wonder businesses are closing down when they are just being greedy

but thats HMV's decision to charge what price they want for an item, if they go out of business then thats up to them,

but you cant hardly say its a rip off as hmv didn't make you buy the headphones so you weren't out of pocket
  • This is a classic retail trick to make people believe they are getting a real bargain.

as an example i was in the market for a hifi and did a little research into spec and prices, this was in october.
i found the one i wanted and found the cheapest price.
i ended up not ordering the item straight away and some 4 weeks later the same item had gone up by £70.

Now of course you could call me cynical but bumping the price up before christmas so as to maximize profits and then reduce the item to its pre christmas price in the sales (feeding frenzy) is just a way of making the most of what is the busiest time of year for retailers.

not illegal, not a rip off

all retailers do it, normally on lines that dont get too much notice (ipods etc which are generally stable price wise)
  • Something similar happened to me. I had not bought an item, but the item was going up in price and the original cost was staying the same. This was some years back

I started (yes sad) to take photos and reported it.

I was contacted by the office of fair trading supported their (shops) case stating build costs had significantly increased yet the bulk order being placed meant the order could be reduced.

    Nice hey!

    Cheers.....Q
  • QfanaticQ,

what blooming difference did it make to you?

Companies can charge what they want. You do not have to buy, and yes it is really sad when someone can photograph an item and theN waste their time complaining.

It doesnt matter what it costs a company to manufacture an item. Doesnt matter if it costs them zilch. They can set a price. Dont like it? DONT BUY IT!!
  • go look at cameras.

you will see many cameras on sale in many shops at 'half price'.

there will be the A500 model at £60, no reduction. but the A501 will be on sale at £100 (it'll be half price next week and is no different to the A500 except it is black, not silver). The A502 is on sale in the next shop down the road. Its an exclusive model in that chain. Its £50 reduced from £80, is exactly the same as the A500 and A501 but is silver and comes with a wrist strap.

    Thats retail!!!

get used to it and do your homework!

its only a rip off if they charge you something they didn't tell you about up front.
