Council owned tree

I got a quote of £1500 to get a dropped kerb put in. ( I got this quote about a year ago and i'm in the process of getting another quote as I did not do the dropped kerbs in time as you have 6 months to do it hopefully the price hasn't increased since )
In that total cost I got a quote of £400 to remove a tree to get a dropped kerb put in which is made up of £280 to remove tree and £120 to remove the tree stump.
Just to give you a heads up I know the councils in Birmingham have gone very strict in removing trees and are now not willing to remove trees for dropped kerbs. I have been chasing my new application for 3 months to find out if the tree is going to be removed. Not sure if all councils have gone this way.0 -
This could be an expensive project... I've already been told that I would need to use permeable paving blocks which are expensive, or install a soakaway for the surface water.
I'm not one for concreting over the countryside, even though I may come across that way, I would just like to get my car and work-van off the road as I feel I am taking more than my fair share of parking in the area. Is that really such a crime?0 -
If you learnt to read at school properly, you would have read my post that said than there is no parking on my side of the road..:p
I had read that and assumed you meant there is no inline curb area for parking. If it's a straight road then people are allowed to park along there.
Is there a physical reason why people can not park there? If there is then this will almost certainly cause problems for you having a dropped kerb.0 -

Sorry if I was a bit out of order with my post to you, another poster wound me up.:A
I'll explain.. The road I live on is a one way, traffic calmed street and a main bus route. It has houses on both sides, all occupied by car owners, and has just one parking bay on the other side of the road to me. So residents on both sides of the road can only park on one side of the road. Parking on my side of the road would literally block the road.
I have problems parking myself and unfortunately have to bring my works van home with me, as well as my car, and my house mate also has a car....
I would imagine that if you lived near me you would curse me every night because we really have too many vehicles for one household.
The front garden is only about 8 foot long, so you would not be able to manoeuvre vehicles on the front.
If this tree was removed we could park 2 vehicles on the front. With the tree in place there is no way that you could park 2 vehicles. The single width bay would only just squeeze in.
Most of the other houses on my side have off road parking, but their trees were planted in much more convenient places.. ie. between the houses rather than in front of them..
I am now going to approach the council with the proposal of removing, then planting a new tree two meters down the road. I hope that would please everyone.;)0 -
Bear in mind the council's are cash strapped so if it's important to you then offer to pay full costs of removal and new tree.
Check out some more eco friendly driveways too - just incase your council insists on this sort.
They might not allow you a double one - depends on the road positioning, and any access points for water/gas that might be in the pavement.
Our council doesn't have very much info on it - but they do a survey and give a price.
You are supposed to have the council do it. And they can make you undo the work and have it redone by them.0 -
I'm guessing around 500 to "move/replant" a small tree, if they agree.
My council does insist on not having surface water draining onto a public highway so I have to keep drainage within my land. What do you mean by eco-friendly? I've seen hard standing lawns, which don't look too bad. Just a concrete screen, with lawn growing between..
I can't see a double being a problem, there is a water meter where the drive would be, but others up and down the road have drives over them.
I won't be doing anything without proper permits, as I can't afford to have it put back to how it was, or any fines they might impose.
Thanks for your help
