You can't get two off the road with a single width kerb? Not even if you drive them on, one at a time?

We can! We just put on car on at a time. However, our drive is quite long, so once both cars are on then either can come off. I it was a standard (single car) length, then it would be a bit of a palava getting one car on, manourving it across to where there is no drop, and then putting the 2nd car on.

Having said that, I too wouldn't want to chop down a tree purely for my own convenience.

I'd go with PPs idea of offering to pay to have it removed and pay to plant another, then there will still be a tree. (Just somewhere else!);)
I love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like? :D :A :D

The Op seems a bit of an idiot, wanting a tree chopped down because it drops red berries in the spring!, i mean what is the world coming to. Sounds such a townie thing to say

Just accept it and move on.

I think you just have to go to the council, explain what you want and offer to pay whatever is required. And be prepared for them to say no in places.

    Autumn, more like ;)

Probably a Rowan - it's a native tree (Mountain Ash) but this specimen is more likely to have been bred as an ornamental ;)

Trees are needed for the environmental impact they have on our lives. They provide food and shelter for birds and absorb rain water from the ground to ensure places don't flood as much.
The more concrete and tarmac that replace grass and trees the more we put our homes at risk.

The OP is after ease and comfort of parking more cars on their drive and preventing people from parking at the front of their home.

Do dropped kerbs come under different rules now?

Go to the council with this offer:

you will pay for a double dropped kerb
you will also pay for a replacement tree to be planted, maybe one that is more suitable, & is still native to the area, within x metres of the current tree

That has to be the most sensible post here, thanks a lot.

As for BASFORDLAD, yes I am a townie... Calling strangers idiots online makes you a cowardly !!!!, you big hard man you...

If you learnt to read at school properly, you would have read my post that said than there is no parking on my side of the road..:p

Someone who thinks part of a reason for having a tree removed is because it makes a mess which is annoying needs to get a grip

I really don't care about a few red berries falling in the autumn. It was just some extra ammo to give to the council for an excuse to have the tree removed.
I think the idea of paying to have a new tree planted a couple of meters down the road was a really good and helpful piece of advice (unlike any of your advice), so keep your hair on Mr. Angry...:p
