NEW CARS - Can you make them a daft offer???
Options
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of making a dealer or even a car manufacturer a daft offer.... i.e. a £15,000 car.... writing them a letter and offering £11,000...... do you think this would work in this current finacial climate.
There doesnt seem to be huge discounts on new cars even though certain brands are shutting down plants for a few months and have hundreds / thousands of cars sitting making no money at holding locations around the UK not to mention dealerships.
Lookings forward to peoples responses.... !!

Why write a letter? Most dealers that I know who might be prepared to cut a deal will want the customer there face to face to sign, seal and deliver. The man without a signature.0

walk into a dealership and ask. getting a few grand off display price isnt unheard of,even before the financial trouble started....work permit granted!0

The old tried and tested methods of haggling haven't changed. A dealer will only sell a car at a net loss if:
1. They get a bonus for fulfilling a sales quota from the manufacturer
or
2. Their cashflow is in serious jeapordy.
You're probably more likely to get £4k off a used car or a luxury car at £20k+
It's worth a try though, just make sure you get what you want rather than something you got cheap as it will still lose £2k as soon as you drive it away.0 -
£1600 off an auris according to toyota website
''once in a blue moon'' offers according to the toyota website, more like one sold every blue moon at those prices :eek:things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

dont think putting an offer in writing would do anything, most dealerships want to talk face to face. however as a guide we currently have pre-reg cars marked up at£16k (£24k list price), so there are some bargains out there (however most people think there is a catch, so the darn things still arent selling lol)

if touch wood anything happened to mine i would go for a 3 year old nissan almera tbh, solid build and can get them with 20k on the clock for somewhere like £3k.
and am sure a struggling motor accessory store will sell a nice set of 15'' alloys to drag the looks into the 20th centurythings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

It's worth a try, you can also consider using a car broker to do the leg work for you. My understanding is they work for a fixed fee, payable once you agree that the price they have got you is acceptable.
Then they tell you where the car is and put you in touch with the dealer.
You may have to travel to collect, but a one of journey to save thousands seems like a bargain to me.
I am also considering a new car, I've heard good things about www.broadspeed.com who can get me what I want with all the extras I want for less than the list price of the standard car.
Good luck, please let us know how you get on.0 -
Anything is worth a try. Go there, ask the dealer (even the sales manager), say what you're prepared to pay and hope for the best. If they don't offer a deal you like do walk away, but leave your details first and tell them to ring you if they change their mind. It's all about courage, confidence and keeping your cool throughout.
Best of luck, and do report back.0
