Because Loopy asked us what the difference between the drives were, I'll assume she would prefer not to hoke around too much with enclosures or internal drives so the simple solution of an external drive is probably more suitable.
With that in mind I would recommend her to get a fairly good external (USB 2.0) DVD rewriter.
I say this because the difference in price between those and the cheapest read-only DVD drives isn't that much and even if you want to save money, you might actually be better off in the long run by buying a slightly more expensive drive that will be easier to sell on if/when you no longer need it.
£55 gets you one of these from Bigpockets (free delivery on this item):

It will write to most formats and at what seems to be the industry standard, 16x speed for DVD-R or DVD+R, which are probably the discs you will use most frequently. Of course it writes to CDs too.
I don't have this drive myself but if I needed another fairly good, medium-priced DVD burner, that's the one I'd probably go for.

ok, call me oldfashioned... or thick,this looks good to me, and good price. However, one of the reviews speaks about a caddy not being right? and er.. what is a USB 2.0 thingy? and how do i know ive got one ... sorry but its all a bit techie for me..
