i looked on amazon, and think i have looked at an external DVD/CD drive.. am i right? which ones are any good?
the reason im considering one is im getting a lappie from Uni and it doesnt have re writer to save my stuff.. and as it will go back in a year, i dont really want to pay to have one put in.
SO.... can i get an external one? what do i look for? what are the - and + signs next to the information?
advice anyone?

Hi
External drives, can be plugged in by usb/firewire connections. + and - signs mean it can take either DVD+ or DVD- blank media, so if you have both signs on the dvd writer you can use either one.
Hope this helps
PS If you look on pricerunner, you'll find loads to choose from0 -
I bought a cheap external enclosure from an Ebay trader and put a standard DVD re-writer in it. It connects to my PC via USB and works a treat. This space has been intentionally left blank0

can i hijack the thread and ask if it is possible to buy and intural dvd drive that will play but not record dvds, will it be cheaper to buy and external one?0

At the or near to the top, choose the type of drive and then Internal or External
May give some price comparisons.0 -

Turn off PC
To Fit, remove PC case, remove and screws holding existing CD Rom
remove audio cable IDE ribbon cable and power supply lead, slot DVD Rom in
and replace cables (mark cableswith a marker pen if you get a bit confused)
put screws back, and replace cover.
