  • I have just used a tub of it ,also discounted from Tesco's to mash in potao's .I made a huge pot of mash and used some to cover a shepperds pie the rest I used an ice-cream server to make into 10 round portions, and put on a plastic plate I then open-froze them. Once frozen yesterday I bagged them up in my freezer. As I live alone two small round portions are more than enough for me to whizz in the microwave to have with what ever I have for my dinner. I always do this with excess mash as it save a lot of time, effort and washing up whne you only need a small amout of mash for one.
It also makes mash a bit more tasty and interesting.

are you referring to portabello mushrooms? or closed cup mushrooms with stalk removed?

also im assuming that baking the philly with somethign wont affect the philly's flavour etc

I don't know what they are called, they are the large open mushrooms, about the size of a saucer, keep the stalk on, the baking will not affect the flavour at all.

i put philly on a baked sweet potato - it's really lovely.
My WW leader tiold me that one - it's surprisingly filling and low GI, so i often have it for lunch at work and it means I'm not starving when i get home!

definitely gonna try this, sounds yummy.

also, does cream cheese go well with any other cheese? can i shred some cheddar on top of a potato and put some cream cheese and bake?
  • when i do the philly for pasta i add a little milk to the mix and melt it down in a pan then mix it all together stick it in a oven proof dish and add a little grated cheese on the top and grill for a few mins.

Check out the Philadelphia website too which has lots of recipes. I have made salmon baked in foil in the oven topped with garlic & herb Philly, and it was really nice.

Yes, I do this aswell, easy way to make a sauce, goes well with bacon, pasta, peas and red pepper, you can add the red pepper and peas to the pan of pasta for the last 5mins of cooking the pasta.

I use it for a few things...

    1) fry off some leeks and mushrooms... add philly and some single cream to pan and put on top of jacket potato :)

    2) Spoon some on top of chicken breast and put ham on top and bake in oven

    3) boil some broccoli and cauliflower ... put in dish ... mix philly with pesto an pour over veg ... top with cheese and stuffing mix... bake in oven :)

have used it straight as a pasta sauce before ... in mash ... on field mushrooms and on top of salmon before :) its a pretty flexible thing :)

Llidls do a cheaper version of Philli. I use it for cooking (as above) and can't tell the difference.

Get those large mushrooms, fill the 'cup' with the cheese, and bake in the oven, they are delish

I do a similar thing, except I destalk the mushrooms then blitz the cheese with the stalks. Spoon into the mushrooms, then top with breadcrumbs.

Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 10-15 minutes until top is crispy.

I serve with a roasted pepper sauce - literally peppers drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with mixed herbs, roasted in oven, skinned then blitzed into a sauce. I put the sauce on the plate first then put a large mushroom on top.

Mushrooms can be prepared in advance ready for the oven, and the sauce can be completely made in advanced and warmed through while the mushrooms are cooking. Great for dinner parties.

Another idea is to stuff turkey breast with philli then wrap in black forest ham (I get this from Lidl) and secure with a cocktail stick. Bake for 15 minutes. Delish!
