Is this worth doing?

I took a new contract out in September.
O2 Offpeak1000 tariff with 750 texts and 1000 off peak minutes to o2 and landlines £25 a month.
Every bill so far has been around £100 - I just cant afford to keep up with this - its not an option! We need to get out of debt and paying out this amount on mobile calls is ridiculous.
I was thinking of putting a payg sim into the phone and paying the £25 a month contract then topping up with £10. Even though the £25 will feel like a big waste at least then Im spending £35 instead of £100+
Or does anyone have any other ideas?

Can you not just change your tarriff ? I know when you take out the contract, you are contracted to O2 for 12 months, but I have changed my tarriff many of times in the past. They should even be calling you to arrange a new package.0
