cards etc were down to 10 cards for £1.
didnt buy anything, queues were far too long. but i expect that those prices weren't the final ones.

Went to the Big W at Beckton today, supposedly closing on 2nd Jan, they were doing bundles of 10 cards (mixed birthday, anniversary etc) for 50p! Packs of little girls/boys T-shirts for 21p (single) and 47p (3 packs), packs of 20 kids party invitations (Dr Who, Noddy etc) for 7p, wrapping paper, partyware etc at next to nothing.

Can't really make out the pricing though as I saw a DVD (Ross Kemp on Gangs, single DVD) which had a handwritten sticker on it stating "Now £19.97", so even with 50% off that it was still near on a tenner (doesn't seem that cheap to me but it may have come up cheaper than that at the tills  )

I must admire the staff though as the queues were long and lots of people querying prices but they were all very friendly and helpful.
If at first you don't succeed ........ ;) Alternative autism therapies should be free!!
  • Reading store is closing on 6th according to a neighbour who works there. 70% off today, lots of 3 packs of worth it T shirts for 90p, single T shirts for 21p, Kiddies jeans for 60p.
otherwise loads of boxes of odds and ends and I mean odd, unpackaged goods.Very few cards left.
  • Went to Woolies today which closes in 6 days according to the poster in the window. Nothing worth buying, Empty dvd cases & ds cases £1 for 10, old cd's, dvd'd & ps2 games were reduced to 50% off however they were marked up to the original RRP, Lost season 1 & 2 £19.99 each. KIng Kong box set reduced to £15.47, Scooby Doo dvd which had 2x episodes on was 50p.

Decided not to buy anything as it was mostly just stuff that i didn't want anyway & i would only be buying it due it being in a sale. The majority of the store was closed off, & only had a few aisles open so i don't know what they are going to do for the next 5 days that the will remain open.
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.

    I won, I won, I won!
 went into chertsey branch today as I had been in a couple of days ago they had loads and loads of kids clothes, so I was going back to get some more pjs for the kids, to find that they had sold the whole lot to someone, I was abit annoyed to say the least - could they have not let it just go cheap to everyone. As the lady said to me "we are closing the shop you know"
  • Hardly the time to complain now really

they did that to the cards in our store ...the card store in the indoor market made them an offer and they took the lot that were left ....as well as other shops sellers taking the bottle water by the boxes ....although they had reduced some down to 10p a bottle ...larger size as well

I just want to say that the staff in the Bracknell store are cheerful, helpful and generally amazing considering they don't even know if they are going to be paid yet. The Bracknell store ran out of heating oil a couple of weeks ago and the staff are still going in...customer are complaining about the cold but the staff are just getting on with it. I guess they are in a catch 22 position....if they don't go in because of the poor working conditions then they may risk not getting the redundancy payment. Whatever...they are just getting on with it and I've been in everyday this week and they are always smiling and helpful.

I say it to them each time I go in now....but I wish each and every one of them all the best for the coming year, especially with a search for a new job or a lottery win!

Three branches local to me due to close tomorrow (2nd Jan) are now closing on Saturday 3rd Jan. Not sure if this applies to all shops due to close on 2nd Jan.

It does seem that extra stock is appearing, perhaps from closed stores, but even with only three days to go the entertainment seems still to be 50% off.

I've been to three stores on the closing day and the discounts seem to be 70%, then 80% from around 2pm and 90% after 3pm. Not all rubbish left - I got the Take That Circus album for £1.09 (yes, OH says still overpriced..) and there were at least ten copies available. Same with Girls Aloud album.

Do check prices at the till as items are scanning at less than expected e.g. MP3 speakers marked £7.99, scanned at £1.00, less 70% = 30p. Also many DIY bits - picture frames hooks, screws, panel pins, etc are scanning at 5p.

For me the best deals are the boxless CDs, games and DVDs - in a handwritten cardboard sleeve for 20p - 50p. With empty cases at 10p it's easy to download playlists for reference.

The staff are all doing a great job :T (including the one who showed me a Virgin PAYG mobile, decided that it was reserved for someone already, then wrote her name on it - good luck to her I say). I wish them all the best for the future. They all seem to be very positive about finding new jobs, or the opportunity for an early retirement.
