£1 a day for Christmas 2009 (or more or less)

Following on from my thread for £1 a day for Christmas thought it would be a good idea to start early for next year.
Same idea again put aside whatever you can afford a day for instance 50p, £1 or £2 and save it for Christmas 2009.
You can start this whenever you want. If you started today (22nd December) and put away £1 a day by November 1st you would have £315.

So whatever you put aside and when you start is entirely upto you.

Cool, I already planned on saving around £50 a month ( to cover birthdays as well and Christmas) but doing it daily would sound easier!
I will join with £2 a day then (as I'm saving for both). May as well start now as I've paid for this year.
Are we physically saving the money daily, putting it in a jar or something? DOn't fancy trekking up to the bank daily/weekly with my little bag of coins!
Would like to know how the rest of you plan on doing this?
    Great idea though, thanks Andrew!

I'm in too! £2 a day would be fantastic if I can keep it up for the whole year and would certainly take the sting out of Chrimbo 2009. I am planning to transfer the £2 a day from my current account to my saver account, although the interest will be minimal it will hopefully stop me dipping in to it quite so easily.

This is my first MSE challenge so wish me luck!!!! Thank you Andrew x

Yes put the money away in a jar or something similar. Maybe give the money per week to a friend or neighbour so that way you don't get tempted to dip into the jar. (that is presuming you can trust your neighbours? ;)) Or if you have a moneybox with a key give the key to somebody so you cannot get into it.
Actually if we put away £2 a day it would give something over £600 if you think about it this is probably more than a lot of people spend over Christmas so you may have some extra left over to treat yourselves in the January 2010 sales.

This is a great idea! I'm gonna start on Monday. Thanks!:money:
  • Oooh, count me in. I am dropping the daily newspapers and have decided to put the 50p each day, away from the daily and the £1.50 from the Sunday paper (£4 per week). Hopefully this should add up nicely.

I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
  • im going to go for 50p a day as hopefully this will keep me going through the year!

Im also gonna greatly encourage my kids 5 & 18 months to save next year, any tips on how much i should encourage them to save each day, ie 2p a day for my 18 month old and 10p for my 5 year old.
