It really is worth doing this!
I had one of those sealed tins (the type you have to open with a can opener) and I started putting change into it about March this year. I help out at Weight Watchers, and the clerks get a very tiny amount each week, depending on number of members turning up and new members (we get between £1.00 to £3.00 per week- told you it was tiny!). Anyhow, I've put it straight into the tin, along with odd change here and there- and opened it on the 1st of Dec to find £133. Happy me!
The only downside is changing up the coins. it's really difficult to take them to a bank here- (I don't drive and live a fair way from the town, and didn't want to travel on the bus weighed down by coins). I used the coinstar machine in the supermarket near me- but it takes a chunk in commission.
I was considering saving the coins up still in another tin and once a month or so getting the smaller amount changed in the bank- then putting that (ie notes) into the sealed tin. I'm not sure how it'll work yet.
I'd be interested to see what others do.Conquering the debts one penny at a time.....0 -

im not saving for christmas, but have several 'piggy banks' on the go, each one has a specific purpose (either a specific project and/or coin denomination).
i have one piggy bank for general loose silver, another for bronze, one is my rainy day fund (home to £2s). this has the bonus of making it that bit easier to sort. i open mine roughly once a quarter and bank what i can, so avoid having a load of change to convert in one go.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
