Problems With Egg

in Credit cards
Has anyone else had problems with Egg putting security stops on cards this weekend ?
It started on Friday, I ordered something from John Lewis, get a call back 2hrs later to say the card had failed. Phone Egg to find out what was happening and they say there was a security stop on the card but can't tell me why. After a bitof a discussion they finally clear the card and I get a call back from JL to say it all went through ok now.
Sunday, my father tries to order something from JL online, card gets refused.
Today my mother is in Tescos getting the food for Christmas and same thing happens at the till. After a very embarassing wait at customer services and a call to Egg the payment gets cleared. The excuse, a security block again.
Is this another scheme by Egg to get rid of customers that always pay off their balances each month, yet get their cashback each year for using the cards ?
I also bank with Barclays and whenever they have had cause for concern they have called me to confirm the payment no matter what time of day it is.

I had something similar with my Egg Money card but was making on-line purchases so no embarrassing moments at the til.
I got an automated call from Egg that asked for my DOB.
I refused to put this in (as I couldn't be sure who was calling).
I put in a false date hoping to get put through to a human but it jsut told me to call EGG.
My card was stopped so I had to call them, they checked a few transactions and then removed the stop.
I had made som USD $ purchases so I thought it might be those that triggerred it.
This is the sedon time this has happened to me and there was nothing unusual about the spending patttern apart from USD purchases.0 -
I always found the Egg [Money] people quite helpful to deal with - give them a call or email. And, no not had any problems .... yet.0

Egg Money cards (MasterCard).
I've never had one of the automated calls from Egg, probably because I gave them a real grilling over the phone the last time I got a call from someone asking me to confirm who I was.
If ever I get companies trying to contact me like this I give them a hard time when I phone their Customer Services later.
When I've had the calls from Barclays we clear the identity problems by a combination of vague/detailed spending history that only the account holder and tha bank could confirm, but I never give out personal information to an unsolicitated caller, especially a 'withheld number'.
To be honest I'm not very impressed with Egg as a company, I only stay with them now for the cashback. They also appear to have moved some of their callcenter operation to India which is another bad mark in my books.0 -
Yes I understand your reluctance, but it's the only way to find out what's going on. Sometimes you just gotta grit your teeth!;)
Most of my transactions through EM these days require this additional secure code they've introduced, drives my OH nuts :rotfl:0 -

My husband got a call from Egg asking him to call back as they were concerned about the use of his card - he had used it for the first time in months. No objection to the call, they were being careful - great, but he had to call back their dreadful voice recognition system which is a real pain and they asked him sooo many questions he got really suspicious. DOB, mother's maiden name, address, postcode , 4 letters from his password etc etc. He said if they had asked him one more question he would have hung up because he had no real way of knowing if it was Egg he was calling or a scam line.0

i received a letter through the post saying egg had blocked my card lol only because i mentioned i wanted to cancel the direct debit and close my account in the future possibly.
i owed around £2,100 on it.
i was recently accepted for a loan at almost 10% less interest rate than the credit card, so i decided to pay the outstanding balance off in one.
Now they've unblocked it !!!
they've p1ssed me around enough, so i closed the account, now they have said they will be charging me interest in my january statement!?!?!0 -
Yup, same thing happened to me (Egg Money card). It got blocked and refused at two shops when I went to do my christmas shopping. When I rang them about this, it turns out the suspect transaction was from 7 days ago, and MasterCard had only just notified them! (the transaction was legit anyway). I found their customer service to be fairly poor, and still have issues with the card.0

When you get the enter your details bit of the system, wait for the gap and just press a number i fails to recognize it and asks again. After 3 fails it gives you a real person, if you are lucky they have a northern accent and they can sort out your problems.
If you are unlucky their english isn't great and when you describe their auto sorting system as bloody annoying, they complain that you swore at them.0
