I think lots of people do not have contents insurance, probably many who are in rented property don't even have building cover.
    Interesting priorities then...

  • But being Sh*te with money is not exclusive to people on Benefits.Financial !!!!lessness is alive and kicking in every income bracket.

For every daft mare like the lady in Colin's original post there are a thousand single Mum's saving hard and doing without themselves to give their children a nice Xmas.

No one does programmes about them because quite frankly it doesn't make interesting enough TV/Radio

Completely agree Miserly_mum. Apologies if it sounds like I'm having a go at everyone on Benifits. I'm really not.., It's the folk who completely milk the system and get away with it that really bug the hell out of me and they do give everyone on Benifits a bad name unfortunatly.. as you say they are the ones who get the media coverage...

It is really hard though not to get peeved off at it, especially at this time of year and considering the current economic climate... Everyone has to tighten their belts so when you hear stories like this it really makes your blood boil...

  • ,Thankyou Colin , I just didn't want what could be an interesting debate turn into the usual "lets bash the benefits scroungers". But I also know how angry it can make hard working people when they hear stories like the one being discussed in this thread.

The only people I know who are on Benefits AND living the high life are the ones fiddling the system by "doing the double" .Or ladies who claim as single parents but who have boyfriends living with them who work.

Despite all the publicity by the Government lately about clamping down on Benefit cheats, people still do it here quite openly because nobody bothers to do anything about it.

Eh, if you're in rented accommodation you don't need buildings cover. Why insure someone else's house??

miserly_mum, I agree completely - my sister is scraping by on benefits while her ex rakes it in. He hurt his wrist punching someone and gets full DLA for it, he also lets his friends use his address to receive their benefits and charges them for it, as a single man who pays nothing towards his children he brings in more a month than my dh does.
