If the front door was left open I doubt any insurance company would pay up!
  • Was on the radio news this morning between 8:00 & 8:30... (Not too sure exactly as I was channel hopping)

  • Sure a while ago there were floods in Belfast and people hadn't been able to afford to pay the £12/month to insure their contents (which included things like 51" plasma tvs, computers, flash hi-fi systems....and many other things I couldn't afford to have) as they weren't working.

Have to feel sorry for the kids though, but I'm sure the local community will rally round.

And while she may be on the dole she has just returned from a holiday in the Caribbean

Well, after the stress of having someone walk through her open door and raiding her house she'll probably need another one. I work my rear off and am studying like crazy and my dh has a good job, yet we don't even know if I can go see my sister get married:mad:

If all this is true, especailly the Caribbean holiday, I think she should come under the scrutiny of the benefit fraud inspectors.

I'm assuming none of the Posters have been on any form of benefits EVER.

Because if you had you would know that the case being discussed is not typical of how ordinary people claming benefits live.

I was a single Mum on benefits for a few years and I can assure you thats not the sort of stuff my kids or family got for Xmas. I didn't go on big flash holidays either.I did get Social fund loans on 2 occasions when washing machines or cookers died on me.

On the other hand we weren't living hand to mouth either like you see on the usual seasonal documentaries knocked out every Xmas.

You know the scenario..... Chavvy looking single Mum tearfully telling us her kids will get next to nothing this year because she can barely afford to feed them let alone buy pressies. Yet you just know she smokes 40 fags a day and goes to bingo 6 nights a week.

Please don't be so quick to jump on the Benefit Bashers Bandwagon.

I know its easy to get annoyed with people like the Woman in the original story, (especially if you are working hard every day to buy your kids their Xmas pressies and still struggle to get them what you would like.)

But being Sh*te with money is not exclusive to people on Benefits.Financial f ecklessness is alive and kicking in every income bracket.

For every daft mare like the lady in Colin's original post there are a thousand single Mum's saving hard and doing without themselves to give their children a nice Xmas.

No one does programmes about them because quite frankly it doesn't make interesting enough TV/Radio
